In 2019, a plague has transformed most of the world's human population into vampires. As human numbers dwindle, the need for blood becomes desperate. When deprived of blood for extended periods, vampires degenerate into subsiders: aggressive bat-like creatures. Humans are captured and harvested in laboratory farms while scientists research a synthetic blood substitute to satisfy vampires' blood hunger. The main supplier of blood in the United States is the pharmaceutical company Bromley Marks, run by Charles Bromley (Sam Neill). Edward Dalton (Ethan Hawke) and Chris Caruso (Vince Colosimo) are hematologists working on the blood substitute. Under pressure from Charles, they try multiple versions in a series of failing clinical trials. Edward secretly refuses to drink human blood, and faces a strained relationship with his brother, Frankie (Michael Dorman), a human-hunting soldier.

Due to his refusal to drink human blood, Edward begins to notice signs that he is becoming a subsider. While driving home from work he notices his ears are becoming pointed (a key indicator) by looking at himself in the vanity mirror. Distracted, he almost collides with another car, which swerves to avoid him and hits a power substation. Edward exits his car to check on the passengers of the other vehicle, who we find are a group of humans led by Audrey (Claudia Karvan), who rescues and hides humans from vampire patrols while they attempt to win allies amongst the vampires. Edward lets the group hide in his car as the police arrive, and tells the officers that they ran off in another direction. Audrey then leads the group of humans away, but not before stealing Edward's ID badge. Later, Audrey appears at Edward's home and asks for his help, presumably because of his human sympathies and scientific specialty. He meets Elvis (Willem Dafoe), a man cured of vampirism after a car crash resulted in him being exposed to sunlight before he fell into a river. After some experimentation, Edward is able to duplicate this effect and is cured himself.

When a convoy of humans headed to Audrey's group is captured by Bromley soldiers, Charles is reunited with his human daughter, Alison (Isabel Lucas), and has her forcibly turned by Frankie. She refuses to drink human blood, but feeds on her own instead - and thus begins to turn into a subsider. She is killed when a group of the creatures are rounded up and executed. Witnessing Alison's death upsets Frankie and he seeks out his brother.

Edward, Elvis, and Audrey meet with Chris and ask him to help spread the cure. However, Chris has finally discovered a viable blood substitute and does not want a cure to become widespread. He calls in a vampire patrol which captures Audrey while Elvis and Edward escape into hiding. They are finally found by Frankie, who agrees to help but is gradually becoming a subsider. He attacks Elvis and they discover that feeding on a former vampire is another cure for vampirism.

Edward turns himself in and goads Charles into attacking him. Edward uses the now-cured Charles to cure a group of soldiers experiencing the beginning of subsider aggression. Edward and Audrey, cornered by more soldiers, are rescued when Frankie sacrifices himself to the soldiers. This sparks a feeding frenzy that leaves all of the soldiers dead or cured. They are confronted by Chris, who kills the few remaining cured soldiers to hide the evidence of the cure. Elvis arrives and rescues Edward and Audrey by killing Chris. The three survivors then drive away into the sunrise with a voice-over by Edward stating that they have a cure and can change others back.

The film revolves around a middle school teacher, Anna Taylor (Christina Ricci), who is unhappy with her life. She has a selfish, unloving mother, Beatrice (Celia Weston), and a boyfriend, Paul Coleman (Justin Long), who cannot seem to figure her out. The film opens as a corpse is in the process of being prepared for a funeral; the man preparing the corpse speaks to it mysteriously, but cheerily. He takes a photo, and the scene fades. Anna is introduced along with Paul, as they finish having sex. She appears unaffected and cold, while he is frustrated with her lack of interest. Later, after school, a young boy she teaches, Jack (Chandler Canterbury), asks her as she is leaving to the funeral, if he could come along. He says his mother, who had neglected to pick him up from school, would not mind. Confused, she attempts to explain that funerals are a personal occasion. Jack offers that he has never been to a funeral before, but she insists it would be inappropriate. The funeral is revealed to be for her recently deceased music teacher, the corpse from the initial scene. There, Anna encounters the solemn owner of the funeral home, Eliot Deacon (Liam Neeson). One night, Anna meets Paul for dinner, not realizing he is going to propose to her and ask her to move to Chicago with him for a job promotion. Paul begins ambiguously, so Anna assumes the worst. Before Paul has a chance to explain, she panics, thinking he's breaking up with her. After a short argument in the restaurant, Anna storms out and drives off passionately. She has an accident while trying to use her cell phone and drive in the rain, while a mysterious white Van is seen on the road alongside.

Anna wakes up dazed, confused and numb. She finds the morgue director, Eliot, cleaning her wound and telling her she has died. He appears frustrated with her, explaining that all dead people claim to be alive just because they, "breathe and piss and shit." He tells her he has a gift, to assist the dead crossing over; to help them accept their deaths. Later in the funeral home, Eliot is revealed to have a collection of photographs of corpses, it is implied that he helped each to cross over, and speaks to them, implying a level of mental instability. Unwilling to accept her potential death, Anna clings onto life. Eliot injects her regularly with a chemical to "relax the muscles and keep rigor mortis from setting in."

Paul, unable to fully accept her death, asks Eliot if he could see her one last time; however, Eliot cannot, by law, show the body to anyone but family. Paul becomes quite angry, but leaves. Attempting to gain access to her, he pleads with friends in the police, who are sympathetic but unwilling. Anna is revealed not to have been taken to a hospital, rather pronounced dead at the scene and shipped to the funeral home. At an unknown funeral service, Eliot encounters Jack. They speak for a moment, during which Jack admits he had thought the funeral had been for Anna. As she still grapples with the concept of her own death, Anna attempts to escape several times but is unsuccessful; Eliot tells her she must let go of life, she had not really been living anyway. Eventually, she steals Eliot's keys, escapes, and finds a room with a phone, intent on calling Paul for help. Paul is unable to hear her properly and hangs up thinking it's a prank. Anna finally accepts she's dead, when Eliot allows her to look at herself in the mirror. She is horrified to find she looks like a corpse. Peculiarly, she leaves fog on the mirror from her breathing, which Eliot quickly wipes away with a hankerchief before she can see. Outside, Eliot spots Jack, gazing up at Anna. In a scene in his home, Jack's apparently negligent mother is shown to be sitting with a grotesque appearance, staring at the television set. At school he tells Paul he saw Anna, which sends Paul into a rage, hitting the boy. Upon confronting Eliot, Jack is told he has the same gift: the ability to see those between life and death as they really are. Eliot tells the boy that the first person he saw was his mother, alluding to Jack's ambiguously stoic mother. Over time, Paul becomes ever more paranoid as to whether or not Anna really is dead; he becomes suspicious of Eliot.

During the final preparation for the funeral, Anna asks Eliot if she can see herself one last time in the mirror. Eliot holds up a small mirror, but while she stares at herself, she takes a deep breathe and notices it condensed on the glass. Suddenly concerned that Eliot has been lying to her, she begins to believe she has been alive all along. Disappointed that she had come so close to accepting her death yet failed, Eliot grimly injects her one last time with chemicals to make her numb. It is seen that Eliot is in fact injecting Anna with Hydronium Bromide, a fictitious chemical mentioned earlier as being able to induce conditions that mimic death.

In the graveyard while digging Anna's grave with Jack, Eliot explains that there are many corpses walking around with "no life left inside them," and because only they can see them, it is their responsibility to help them into the grave. It is never fully revealed whether this is metaphorical or literal, yet Jack at least appears to take it very literal. A particularly sickly little chick he is instructed to look after as a school assignment, is finally put into a paper box makeshift coffin and buried alive by the boy in order to spare it the pain of living 'without truly living' (due to its illness).

After the funeral, Paul drinks heavily, telling Eliot he knew Anna was not dead. Anna is shown awakening while being buried. Trying to cry out and open the coffin, she struggles against death. As she slowly dies in the coffin, Eliot offers that Paul should go to the cemetery and find out whether Anna is actually dead or not, before its too late. Paul rushes to the cemetery, driving under the influence of alcohol and speedily. There is another ambiguous cut before he is shown to have dug up Anna's grave, to find her alive. They embrace and Anna tells him "she has always loved him." As they hug, Paul hears a rather unusual set of sounds which Anna explains are Eliot's gloves and scissors as he prepares his body. Paul sees Anna literally disappearing in his embrace and then sees the bright flash of headlights by the cemetery. He wakes up in the morgue with Eliot preparing his body. He says he saw Anna and Eliot tells him he never made it to the cemetery due to a car accident that killed him. It is left rather ambiguous whether Eliot is telling the truth, or truly a serial killer, though there are quite a few hints that indicate he indeed is the latter, among them Jack, who is shown to have become his protégé (and to have killed the chick out of 'mercy' before, thereby seemingly acting according to Eliot's logic of putting the living out of their misery). Paul claims just as vehemently as Anna that he is not dead, as they begin preparing his body.

Raizo (Rain) is raised by the Ozunu Clan to become the most lethal Ninja assassin in the world. As a child, Raizo (being an orphan) was taken in by Lord Ozuno (Sho Kosugi) and is enrolled in severe brutal training to become the next successor of their clan. The only generosity he ever receives was from a kunoichi named Kiriko (Kylie Goldstein), with whom he develops a romantic bond. As time goes on, Kiriko becomes disenchanted with the Ozunu's routine and wishes to abandon it for freedom. One rainy night, Kiriko decides to make her escape and encourages Raizo to join her; however he decides to stay. Branded as a traitor, Kiriko was caught and later executed in front of Raizo by her elder ninja brother Takeshi (Rick Yune). As a result of Kiriko's death, Raizo begins to harbor resentment and doubt towards the Ozunu. However, this is shown to be in the past. The scene switches to the present where a disguised female assassin (Linh Dan Pham) attempts to kill Raizo at a laundromat. He successfully fends off all her attacks and succeeds in killing her, leaving her remains in the washing machine.

The scene switches back to the past where Raizo is seated in a car and is instructed by Lord Ozunu to successfully complete his first assassination mission. Afterwards, Raizo meets the rest of his clan atop a city skyscraper in Berlin. There he is instructed by Lord Ozunu to execute another kunoichi traitor like Kiriko. He rebels against Lord Ozunu by cutting his face with a kyoketsu-shoge and engages in combat against his fellow ninja kin. Barely surviving, he falls over the edge of the skyscraper and into a nearby pool. Raizo recovers from his ordeal and begins to intervene and foil subsequent Ozunu assassination attempts. Meanwhile, Europol agent Mika Coretti (Naomie Harris) has been investigating money-linked political murders and finds out that they are possibly connected to the Ozunu. She defies her superior, Ryan Maslow (Ben Miles), and retrieves secret agency files to find out more about the investigation.

Mika meets Raizo and convinces him to see Maslow for protection as well as to provide evidence against the Ozunu. However, Raizo is arrested by Maslow and abducted by agents from Europol for interrogation. Although feeling betrayed, Mika is assured by Maslow that he is still on her side and gives her a tracking device for emergencies. The Ozunu ninjas infiltrate the Europol safehouse where Raizo is being held in an attempt to kill him and everybody inside. Mika frees Raizo and they both manage to escape, but Raizo suffers near-mortal wounds. Mika then takes him to a motel to hide. Resting in the motel, Mika implants the tracking device into Raizo, as the ninjas remain in pursuit. Unable to fend off the Ozunu, she hides outside the motel until Special Forces arrive to help her. By the time they arrive, the ninjas have already kidnapped Raizo, bringing him before Lord Ozunu for prosecution. During transport back to the Ozunu, Raizo uses his ninja techniques to heal his own wounds.

Europol special forces and tactical teams led by Maslow storm the secluded Ozunu retreat (nestled in the mountains) using the tracking device on Raizo. Raizo kills Takeshi and confronts Lord Ozunu in a sword duel. Mika interferes to help, but is stabbed by Lord Ozunu. Enraged, Raizo uses a 'shadow blending' technique for the first time to distract and kill Lord Ozunu. Mika, seemingly fatally wounded, is in fact saved by a quirk of birth: her heart is actually on the opposite side of her chest. After Europol leaves, Raizo stays behind to tend to the ruins of the Ozunu retreat. He later climbs the same wall Kiriko did while trying to escape in the past, and looks out at the surrounding countryside. He then recognizes his freedom for the first time.

The film tells the story of Lucian (Michael Sheen), the first werewolf able to take human form and to be called a Lycan. Viktor (Bill Nighy), a ruthless elder vampire, raises the child. Viktor kills Lucian's werewolf mother but envisions a race of werewolf slaves for his clan that could keep guard during the day and toil for the vampires. As Lucian grows up, he and Viktor's young daughter Sonja (Rhona Mitra) develop an attraction that blossoms into love in their adult years, though they keep their relationship hidden.

Viktor has a relationship with the humans of the area; he protects them from the werewolves that roam the countryside in exchange for a tithe. As human nobles meet with the vampire council for protection from the werewolves, Sonja guards them. Lucian hears the werewolves near Sonja and orders Death Dealers sent to help her. When his orders are denied, he steals a horse and sword from a nearby Death Dealer. Werewolves proceed to kill the nobles, causing Lucian to battle them. When Lucian changes into a Lycan in order to protect Sonja, the werewolves back down. Viktor, despite acknowledging that Lucian saved his daughter, feels betrayed by his favorite pet and locks Lucian away after having him brutally whipped.

With the help of the scheming vampire Andreas Tanis, Sonja orchestrates Lucian's release in exchange for her seat on the vampire council. Lucian escapes, kills several of the vampires and begins liberating the other Lycans. The guards begin slaughtering the escapees. Sonja remains behind, but when Viktor discovers that she has had a forbidden relationship with Lucian, he imprisons her. Lucian and some of the freed Lycans roam the countryside recruiting many of the labourers of the human nobles to their fight for freedom. He also travels to a cavernous location that is teeming with werewolves, attempting to contact them. The vampire nobles are outraged by the escape and growing chaos, demanding that Viktor recapture Lucian. Viktor however, knows that Lucian will come to him.

Lucian learns about Sonja's imprisonment from one of her attendants and sets out to rescue her. Lucian orders his followers to wait, but be prepared to attack if he does not return. Lucian rescues Sonja from the fortress but they are attacked by the Death Dealers. Sonja confronts Viktor and tries to get him to call off his guards by revealing that she is pregnant with Lucian's child. Disgusted, Viktor overpowers her and imprisons both her and Lucian. Sonja is sentenced to death at a trial presided over by her father and the council. Lucian is forced to witness Sonja's death, in which she is burned to death by sunlight.

Lucian awakens when Viktor comes in to view his deceased daughter. As Viktor removes the pendant necklace he gave Sonja, an enraged Lucian transforms and overpowers Viktor. Lucian takes Sonja's pendant, escaping out a window. The escape is stopped at the castle walls by Death Dealers who shoot Lucian with crossbows. With a thunderous howl, Lucian summons the freed Lycans and werewolves, who attack the coven. Viktor sends Tanis to remove the slumbering Amelia and Markus from their crypts before joining the battle with his personal guard. The council, meanwhile are overwhelmed and butchered by the rampaging werewolves.

Lucian sees Viktor entering the fray and fights his way to him. Viktor and Lucian battle their way to the catacombs. The fight continues until Lucian overcomes Viktor. Viktor's 'final' words attest to his regret at not having killed Lucian the moment he was born, to which Lucian sarcastically agrees before forcing his sword through Viktor's mouth and head and letting the body fall into the water below. Lucian emerges to the courtyard which is ringed with the surviving Lycans, werewolves and freed slaves. He declares this victory as only the beginning of what will become a war between the races. Tanis is leading a very alive Viktor into a hibernation chamber on a boat.

The film ends with the opening scene of the first Underworld, with the audio from the scene where Kraven tells Selene that it was Viktor who murdered her family, rather than the Lycans, and that Viktor spared her because she reminded him of the daughter he condemned to death; Selene replies to Kraven, "Lies"

In 2233, the Federation starship USS Kelvin is investigating a "lightning storm" in space. The Romulan ship Narada emerges from the singularity and attacks the Kelvin. Narada's first officer, Ayel, demands that Captain Robau come aboard to discuss a cease fire. Narada's commander Nero is initially silent, but when Robau mentions the stardate, Nero suddenly kills Robau and resumes the assault on the Kelvin. The Kelvin's first officer, George Kirk orders the ship's personnel evacuated via shuttlecraft, including his pregnant wife, Winona. To protect the shuttlecraft, Kirk sacrifices himself by steering the Kelvin on a collision course. Seconds before impact, Winona and George agree to name their newborn son after Winona's father - Jim.

Several years later, Spock, growing up on the planet Vulcan, is discriminated against for being half-human. As an adult, he decides to join Starfleet after the Vulcan Science Academy slights his human mother as a "disadvantage". On Earth, James Kirk has become a reckless but intelligent young man. After a bar fight involving friends of Uhura, Kirk meets Captain Christopher Pike, who challenges him to emulate his father's heroism and join Starfleet.

Three years later, Commander Spock accuses Starfleet Academy Cadet Kirk of cheating during the Kobayashi Maru simulation, which Spock himself had programmed. The disciplinary hearing is interrupted when Starfleet receives a distress signal from Vulcan. With the primary fleet out of range, cadets are mobilized to crew ships waiting in orbit. Leonard McCoy and Kirk board Pike's command, Enterprise. Realizing that the "lightning storm" observed by Vulcan is similar to the one on the day of his birth, Kirk convinces Pike to raise the shields and thus be ready for the oncoming trap.

The Enterprise arrives at Vulcan to find the rest of the fleet destroyed and the Narada drilling into Vulcan's core. After the Enterprise is attacked by the Narada, Pike surrenders, giving Spock command of the ship and promoting Kirk to first officer. Kirk, Hikaru Sulu, and Chief Engineer Olson perform a space jump onto the drilling platform, disabling it. However, it has drilled deep enough for Nero to launch "red matter" into the core, creating an artificial black hole. The black hole consumes the planet, killing most of the population, including Spock's mother.

As Nero tortures Pike to gain access to Earth's perimeter defenses, Spock maroons Kirk on Delta Vega for mutiny after Kirk argues against Spock's orders. Kirk encounters Ambassador Spock, who explains that he and Nero are from the future. 129 years in the future, the galaxy is threatened by a volatile supernova. Spock intended to use the "red matter" to create a black hole to stop the supernova, but did not arrive in time to stop the supernova's blast from destroying the planet Romulus, killing Nero's wife. Nero attacked Spock's vessel with the Narada, and both were caught in the event horizon of the black hole, sending them back in time. Nero captured Spock and stranded him on Delta Vega to watch Vulcan's destruction.

Spock and Kirk walk to a nearby Starfleet outpost, where they meet Montgomery Scott. With Ambassador Spock's help, Kirk and Scott beam onto the Enterprise in flight. Following Ambassador Spock's advice, Kirk mocks Spock's lack of emotion to provoke an emotional response. An incensed Spock chokes Kirk before he recognizes his emotional compromise; he relinquishes command to Kirk. Spock talks with his father, Sarek and then decides to work with Kirk and joins Kirk in a bold plan for a sneak attack on the Narada. After the Enterprise hides itself under the gas clouds of Titan, Kirk and Spock beam aboard the Narada; Kirk rescues Pike while Spock uses Ambassador Spock's ship to destroy the drill. Spock leads the Narada away from Earth and then programs his ship to collide with the Narada. Just prior to impact, the Enterprise arrives and beams Kirk, Pike, and Spock away. Ambassador Spock's ship and the Narada collide, igniting the "red matter" and creating a black hole that destroys the Narada and almost claims the Enterprise.

On Earth, Kirk is promoted to the rank of Captain and given command of the Enterprise, while Captain Pike is promoted to rear admiral. Spock encounters his older self in a Starfleet hangar; Ambassador Spock has selected a planet for the surviving Vulcans to colonize. He dissuades his younger self from resigning from Starfleet to help his species, encouraging him to do what feels right, instead of what is logical. Spock remains in Starfleet and becomes first officer under Kirk's command. The film ends with the Enterprise going to warp as Ambassador Spock narrates the "where no man has gone before" monologue.

An alien spaceship crashes near Searchlight, Nevada, outside Las Vegas. Project Moon Dust, a secret Defense Department unit led by Henry Burke (Ciarán Hinds) and one of his young unnamed task forces, arrives in black helicopters. Men in Black seize the ship and search for its passengers.

Jack Bruno (Dwayne Johnson) is a former mob get-away driver who drives a cab to avoid returning to jail. One of his passengers is Dr. Alex Friedman (Carla Gugino), a failed scientist who is in Las Vegas to speak at a UFO convention at the Planet Hollywood hotel.

After resisting two thugs who seek his services for a mob boss, Bruno finds two teenagers, Sara (AnnaSophia Robb) and Seth (Alexander Ludwig), in his cab. They offer $15,000 to drive to a certain destination. Burke's men follow the cab; Bruno believes that the government agents are more mob thugs, and evades them with his driving skills. Seth's ability to vary his molecular density helps the group to escape.

When they arrive at an abandoned house, Bruno follows them out of concern and curiosity. The teenagers retrieve the device they were looking for within a hidden underground laboratory, but the three are attacked by a "Siphon" (Tom Woodruff, Jr.), a powerful armored alien assassin. The Siphon pursues the group until its spaceship crashes into a train and the creature is wounded. The three again escape Burke's agents, in part due to Sara's telepathy and telekinetics.

The teenagers explain to Bruno that they are from a dying planet 3,000 light years from Earth. Its government intends to invade Earth, despite the idea being unpopular among the majority of their race, so that their kind may survive. Seth and Sara's parents are scientists who sought a way to save their planet without invasion but were arrested before completing their experiment. The teenagers came to retrieve the successful results, but the alien government sent the assassin to stop them. To save both worlds, they must retrieve their spaceship and return home.

Bruno brings Seth and Sara to Dr. Friedman at the UFO convention, who realizes that the teenagers are what she has been searching for and joins the group. Fellow UFOlogist and conspiracy theorist Dr. Donald Harlan (Garry Marshall) tells them that the spaceship was taken to the secret California government base Witch Mountain. The group arrives at the base but are captured; Burke orders that the teenagers be prepared for vivisection, but frees the adults as no one will believe them.

The Siphon attacks Witch Mountain and battles the soldiers, allowing Bruno and Friedman to infiltrate the base and free Seth and Sara. They launch the ship, escape through the mountain's tunnels, and finally kill the assassin who has stowed away on the spaceship. The teenagers give Bruno and Friedman a tracking device that will allow the aliens to always find them, tearfully wish them farewell, and return to their planet.

Bruno and Friedman become successful authors of Race to Witch Mountain: A True Story. They promote their book and knowledge on the UFO convention circuit, explaining that the publicity protects them from government reprisal. As they leave a convention the alien device activates, implying that the teenagers may be returning to Earth.

In 1989, 17 year-old Mike O'Donnell learns from his girlfriend Scarlett that she is pregnant during the final quarter of his high school-championship basketball game. However, just moments before scoring the winning basket, Mike abandons the game, and a possible college basketball scholarship, to chase Scarlett down the hall and propose to her.

Twenty years later, Mike finds his life stalled. Scarlett has separated from him due to his regrets about abandoning college, forcing him to move in with his geeky and wealthy best friend since high school, Ned Gold; he quits his job and his high school-age children Maggie and Alex want nothing to do with him. Later, while visiting his high school to reminisce, an encounter with a mysterious janitor transforms Mike into his 17 year-old self.

Given the chance to re-live his youth, Mike enrolls in high school posing as Mark Gold, Ned's son, and plans to go to college with a basketball scholarship. As he befriends his children, however, Mike comes to believe that his mission is to help them. Mike comforts Maggie when her boyfriend Stan, the captain of the basketball team, dumps her. With his help, Alex overcomes Stan's bullying to obtain a place with Mike on the basketball team and the girlfriend he desires.

Through their children Mike spends time with Scarlett, who is attracted to his remarkable resemblance to her husband in high school. Mike has difficulty resisting his desire for her despite the relationship's apparent inappropriateness. At the same time, he resists Maggie's growing infatuation with him by telling her that he loves another. Meanwhile, Ned courts Jane Masterson, the high school principal who shares a mutual interest in The Lord of the Rings.

Mike soon realizes that Scarlett is the "best decision" he had ever made and tries to re-unite with her and unsuccessfully explains to her that he is actually Mike, her husband. On the day of the court hearing to finalize Scarlett and Mike's divorce, Mike makes one last attempt to win her back (as Mark) by reading a supposed letter from Mike. He states that although he couldn't set things right in the beginning of his life, it doesn't extinguish the fact that he still loves her since that day. After he exits, Scarlett notices that the "letter" is completely blank and she begins to grow curious. During a high school basketball game, Mike reveals himself to Scarlett. As Scarlett once again runs away down the hall, Mike decides to chase her down once more, but not before handing the ball off to his son so he can have the scholarship. Mike is then transformed back into his 37 year-old self and is reunited with Scarlett. Meanwhile, Ned and Jane begin dating and Mike is hired as the high school's new basketball coach.

College student Alex and her friends go into the woods on a rafting trip. Her friends are killed by the mutant cannibal 'Three Fingers', from the previous films. She is left to fend for herself, but not for long. Two days later a most dangerous Mexican prisoner, Carlo Chavez, and group of prisoners are being transferred by Nate Wilson, a prison guard, on his last day before leaving to become a lawyer. On the way, Nate meets up with an old friend, Sheriff Calvin Carver, making viewers aware that Nate used to live in these lands. During transportation their bus is attacked by Three Fingers and they escape.While being chased through the woods, the prisoners led by Chavez, use Nate as a guide to lead them to a watch tower (which was the tower from the first movie) to issue an SOS. Officer Walter, now a prisoner, encounters Alex and an abandoned armored truck filled with cash. The money quickly becomes the prisoners' sole motivation for escape and survival. Chavez commands Walter to pick up one of the bags of money, but Walter refuses because of his injury from Three Fingers. Walter pulls out a gun and tries to shoot Chavez. Unfortunately, the gun was not loaded and Chavez kills Nate's friend.

During the trail, they stumble upon a booby trap. The prisoners escape the booby trap set by Three-Toes (Three Finger's son from the previous film). They then catch the son and behead him, leaving a trophy on the spent booby trap for Three Fingers to find as a message. They soon realize it only made Three Fingers even more fearsome. One-by-one, Three Fingers hunts and murders every prisoner and kills the sheriff and his deputy. During the killings, Nate and Alex manage to escape. They are able to find the watch tower, which was badly burned years ago (first movie). Chavez decides to get rid of Nate, but instead promises him another way to get out. They find Three Finger's truck and Chavez uses Alex as bait. Three Fingers kidnapped Alex and Nate rescues her. Floyd steals the money and Chavez chases him down only to see his money burning and Floyd gets killed by Three Fingers. Three Fingers goes to another location to find the rest, until he is face to face with Chavez and battles him with a Hatchet and a meat hook. Both beat one another, but Three Fingers eventually kills Chavez, hangs his corpse in a tree, removes his scalp and eats part of his brain. Nate finds Three Fingers' house with the help of the sheriff's dog and frees Alex. Three Fingers hides behind a door and ambushes Nate. The dog attacks Three Fingers to save them, but is killed by the hook. Alex stabs Three Fingers using the large stake that held Three Toes' head and believes she killed him. Nate and Alex take his tow truck and drive away. Thinking it is over, Three Fingers follows them and gets on top of the truck. Nate crashes into a tree and Brandon the prisoner, sees the whole thing and decides to help them. The truck catches fire and is about to explode, when Brandon gets Alex out then Nate. Three Fingers attempts to attack them but something goes wrong and he finally appears to be killed when Nate stabs him in the head with his own meat hook.

Nate lets Brandon go freely as he had not actually murdered the bartender (the crime that he was convicted for) & tells him that police will not go looking for a dead con, but asks him to stay out of trouble. Brandon promises to do so & leaves. Soon after the U.S. Marshall team arrives, rescues Nate & Alex and escort them to safety.

Sometime later, Nate returns to collect the remaining cash from the truck (the rest having been burned by "Three Fingers" earlier). But Brandon, who is one of the convicts that Nate let go, kills him with an arrow through the chest, with the retort, "Never trust a con". Unknown to Brandon, Three Fingers, having survived, appears from behind holding a crude weapon dripping with blood, he walks towards Brandon and Brandon's scream is heard over the end credits.

In a short flashback, Deborah Myers (Sheri Moon Zombie) visits her son, a young Michael Myers (Chase Wright Vanek), at Smith's Grove Sanitarium. Deborah gives Michael a white horse statuette as a gift. Michael says that the horse reminds him of a dream he had of Deborah's ghost, all dressed in white and leading a horse down the sanitarium halls toward Michael, telling him she was going to bring him home. Moving ahead fifteen years, after having shot an adult Michael (Tyler Mane), Laurie Strode (Scout Taylor-Compton) is found wandering around in a state of shock and covered in blood by Sheriff Brackett (Brad Dourif). Brackett takes Laurie to the emergency room. Meanwhile, the paramedics pick up the Sheriff's daughter Annie (Danielle Harris) and Michael's psychiatrist Dr. Loomis (Malcolm McDowell), who are still alive after having been attacked by Michael, and take them to the hospital. Presumed dead, Michael's lifeless body is loaded into a separate ambulance. When the driver has a traffic accident Michael awakens and escapes the ambulance, walking toward a vision of Deborah dressed in white and leading a white horse.

Michael appears at the hospital, and begins murdering everyone he comes across on his way to Laurie. Trapped in a security outpost at the gate, Laurie watches as Michael tears through the walls with an axe, but just as he tries to kill her, Laurie wakes up from the dream. It is actually one year later and Laurie is now living with the Bracketts. Michael's body has been missing since last Halloween—still presumed dead—and Laurie has been having recurring nightmares about the event. While Laurie deals with her trauma through therapy, Loomis has chosen to turn the event into an opportunity to write another book. Meanwhile, Michael has been having visions of Deborah's ghost and a younger version of himself, who instructs him that with Halloween approaching it is time to bring Laurie home; so he sets off for Haddonfield.

As Michael travels to Haddonfield, Laurie begins having hallucinations that mirror Michael's, which involve a ghostly image of Deborah and a young Michael in a clown costume. In addition, her hallucinations also begin to include her acting out Michael's murders, like envisioning herself taping Annie to a chair and slitting her throat while dressed in a clown outfit—similar to how a young Michael murdered Ronnie White. While Laurie struggles with her dreams, Loomis has been going on tour to promote his new book, only to be greeted with criticism from people who blame him for Michael's actions and for exploiting the deaths of Michael's victims. When his book is finally released, Laurie discovers the truth: that she is really Angel Myers, Michael's long lost sister. With the truth out, she decides to go partying with her friends Mya (Brea Grant) and Harley (Angela Trimbur) to escape how she is feeling. Michael appears at the party and kills Harley, then makes his way over to the Brackett house and stabs Annie repeatedly. When Laurie and Mya arrive they find Annie bloodied and dying. Michael kills Mya and then comes after Laurie, who manages to escape the house. While Laurie manages to flag down a passing motorist, Sheriff Brackett arrives home and finds his daughter dead. Laurie gets into the motorist's car, but before they can escape Michael kills the driver and flips the car over with Laurie still in it. Michael takes the unconscious Laurie to an abandoned shed he has been camping out in. Laurie awakens to a vision of Deborah, and a young Michael, ordering her to say "I love you, mommy".

The police discover Michael's location and surround the shed. Loomis arrives and goes into the shed to try to reason Michael into letting Laurie go. Inside, he has to inform Laurie, who believes that the younger Michael is holding her down, that no one is restraining her and that she must maintain her sanity. Just then, Deborah instructs the older Michael that it is time to go home, and Michael grabs Loomis and begins repeatedly slashing his face and stabbing him in the chest. Stepping in front of a window while holding Loomis's body, Michael is shot twice by Sheriff Brackett and falls onto the spikes of some farming equipment. Apparently released of the visions, Laurie walks over and tells Michael she loves him, then she stabs him repeatedly in the chest and finally in the face. The shed door opens and Laurie walks out, wearing Michael's mask. As she pulls the mask off, the scene transitions to Laurie in isolation in a psychiatric ward, grinning as a vision of Deborah dressed in white stands with a white horse at the end of her room.

Peter Strahm's fate from Saw V is fully revealed as Hoffman retracts the walls of the crushing room revealing Strahm's unrecognizable body with only his hand intact which Hoffman cuts free. Simone (Tanedra Howard) and Eddie (Marty Moreau), two predatory lenders, wake up wearing head harnesses with screws poised to their heads in a room with a caged-in scale in the center. The one who puts the most flesh weight on their tray will survive. Eddie slices chunks of fat from his body, but he dies when Simone chops her left forearm off to tip the scale, saving herself. Lt. Mark Hoffman (Costas Mandylor) is called to the scene by Dan Erickson (Mark Rolston), who found Strahm's fingerprints around the room. He also reveals that Lindsey Perez (Athena Karkanis) is still alive, her survival having been hidden by Erickson due to Jigsaw's last accomplice still being unknown. Hoffman later meets with Jill Tuck (Betsy Russell) at her clinic; he informs her that he is taking control of the games, and Jill hands him five envelopes from the box left to her in John Kramer's (Tobin Bell) will.

William Easton (Peter Outerbridge), a health insurance executive, talks with his company's attorney, Debbie (Caroline Cave), about Harold Abbott (George Newbern), who died from an illness after his insurance policy was revoked due to an application discrepancy. That night, William is kidnapped from his office and brought to an abandoned zoo. He awakens in a vise trap designed to tighten around his torso each time he breathes into an oxygen respirator. Across from him, Hank (Gerry Mendicino), his janitor and a smoker, is in the same trap. William learns that he has sixty minutes to go through four traps to remove bombs from his limbs, and that he will lose his family if he fails. In the first test, Hank is killed when he fails to hold his breath longer. In his second test, Jigsaw's puppet informs William that he must choose to save either his file clerk Allen (Shawn Ahmed), a healthy young man with no family, or his secretary Addy (Janelle Hutchison), an ill woman surrounded by family. William chooses to save Addy, and Allen is hanged by a barbed wire noose when his platform retracts. In his third test, he must help Debbie navigate a boiler room maze within ninety seconds or the device on her chest will fire a spear through her head. At the end of the maze, she discovers through X-ray films that the key to her device is implanted in William's side and attacks him with a circular saw, but is killed when her device discharges. In his final test, William finds his six staff members chained to a spinning carousel, with a shotgun positioned to kill them one at a time. He can save two of them by driving spikes into his hand that will divert the shotgun. He reluctantly chooses to save Emily and Shelby.

Throughout William's tests, it is revealed that John and William met at Jill's clinic and that John found fault with William's methods, which essentially chose who would live or die. John later went to William for coverage for cancer treatment and was rejected. It is further revealed that John brought Amanda Young (Shawnee Smith) to Jill, who had dismissed Amanda as a lost cause, as proof that his methods worked; Jill went to the plant before John's death and asked him to end the games, and John gave her the key to the box from his will with the promise that she would be given a way out when the games ended. Elsewhere in the zoo, Tara (Shauna MacDonald) and Brent (Devon Bostick) wake up in one locked cage, while reporter Pamela Jenkins (Samantha Lemole) wakes up in another. Meanwhile, Erickson and Perez inform Hoffman that they found abnormalities in Strahm's fingerprints, and that they retrieved the Seth Baxter tape, the voice of which did not match Jigsaw's. They bring Hoffman to the site where the voice is being unscrambled by a technician, and Erickson reveals to a visibly nervous Hoffman that he is aware of Strahm's death. The moment they discover it is Hoffman's voice on the tape, Hoffman kills everyone in the room and sets it on fire to destroy all evidence, planting fingerprints from Strahm's hand to divert suspicion toward him.

When Hoffman returns to the observation room for William's tests, he finds a note left by Jill. It is a copy of a letter he had written to Amanda to blackmail her into killing Lynn Denlon upon finding out that Amanda had been with Cecil (Billy Otis) the night he robbed Jill's clinic. As Jill returns and shocks Hoffman with an electrical device under his chair, William reaches the end of his path and finds himself between the two cages, where it is revealed that he and Pamela are siblings, while Tara and Brent are Harold Abbott's family. A videotape informs Tara that she can choose to kill William or set him free using a marked switch; when Tara cannot bring herself to do so, Brent readily shifts the switch to "Die" and William is killed when a platform of needles swings into his back and pumps hydrofluoric acid into his body, rending his flesh and splitting his body in half. Simultaneously, Jill restrains Hoffman and secures a modified Reverse Bear-Trap to his head, leaving him with a 45-second timer but no key. He escapes the chair by breaking his hand and lodges the trap in between the horizontal bars of the door's window, pulling his head free and tearing his right cheek open he falls to the ground and screams.

With his dying breath, Thomas Logan reveals that he, not John Howlett, is James' real father. James flees into the forest, then goes with Victor Creed, the abused son of Thomas who is thus James' brother. They spend the next century as soldiers, fighting in the American Civil War, both World Wars and the Vietnam War. In Vietnam, Victor (Liev Schrieber) attempts to rape a local village woman, but is stopped after killing a senior officer. Despite his objections to Victor's actions, James (Hugh Jackman) defends his brother, and the two are sentenced to execution by firing squad, which they survive. Major William Stryker (Danny Huston) approaches them, now in military custody, and offers them membership in Team X, a group of mutants including marksman Agent Zero (Daniel Henney), swordsman Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds), teleporter John Wraith (Will.i.am), invulnerable Fred Dukes (Kevin Durand) and electropathic Chris Bradley (Dominic Monaghan). They join the team, but the group's questionable actions and disregard for human life cause James to leave.

Six years later, James, now going by the name Logan, lives in Canada with his girlfriend, Kayla Silverfox (Lynn Collins). Colonel Stryker locates Logan and warns him that someone is killing members of the team; both Wilson and Bradley are dead. Shortly afterward, Victor murders Kayla and attacks Logan. Stryker offers Logan a way to beat Victor; Logan undergoes an operation to reinforce his skeleton with adamantium, a virtually indestructible metal. Before the procedure, Logan asks for new dog tags inscribed with "Wolverine", based on a story that Kayla told him. Once the procedure is complete, Stryker orders Logan's memory erased, but Logan overhears and fights his way out. Logan hides at a farm, but the next day Zero tracks him down. Zero attacks Logan, killing the owners of the farm (Max Cullen and Julia Blake), but later Logan kills Zero and continues his revenge.

Logan locates Wraith and Dukes and asks them about the location of Stryker's new laboratory, referred to as "The Island". They tell him to find Remy LeBeau (Gambit) (Taylor Kitsch), who escaped and knows the location of The Island. Logan locates Gambit in New Orleans, and asks for the Island's location, but Gambit suspects Logan was sent to recapture him and attacks. Victor manages to find Logan and, after killing Wraith, he attacks him. When Logan is about to kill Victor, Gambit interrupts, giving Victor the chance to escape. Logan and Gambit fight one last time before Logan convinces him he is not working for Stryker. Gambit takes him to Stryker's facility on Three Mile Island. Logan learns that Kayla is alive and conspired with Stryker in exchange for her sister's safety.

Logan leaves, enraging Victor. When Victor demands the adamantium bonding promised for his service, Stryker refuses on the basis that Victor would not survive the procedure. Victor attempts to kill Kayla when she tries to persuade him Stryker betrayed them both, but Logan hears her screams and returns. Logan defeats and nearly kills Victor, but stops when Kayla reminds him of his humanity (by saying 'you're not an animal'). Kayla and Logan free the imprisoned mutants.

Stryker activates Weapon XI, originally Wade Wilson, but now a "mutant killer" with the abilities of other mutants, which Stryker refers to as "The Deadpool". Due to the electrical powers of Chris, Deadpool can be communicated with from afar. Logan holds Weapon XI off while the mutants flee. The party is greeted by Professor Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart), who offers them shelter at his school.

Kayla, mortally wounded, decides to stay. Logan lures Weapon XI to the top of one of the plant's cooling towers, Deadpool teleporting up. Logan is almost killed when the order is given for him to be decapitated until Victor intervenes. Logan decapitates Weapon XI and kicks him into the base of the cooling tower. As he falls, the power of Cyclops activates, causing the Tower to start falling apart. Victor departs and Logan is saved from the collapsing tower by Gambit. As Logan carries Kayla to safety, Stryker shoots him in the forehead with adamantium bullets, rendering him unconscious. Kayla uses her persuasion powers to make Stryker drop the gun and commands him to walk away until his feet bleed before dying from her wounds. Gambit returns as Logan regains consciousness, but the bullets that were shot at his brain have triggered amnesia. Gambit tries convincing Logan to come with him, but he declines, wanting to go his own way.

In a mid-credits scene, Stryker is walking down the road as influenced by Kayla, and is picked up by the military police who arrived to bring him in for questioning about his connection with General Munson's murder. In a post-credits scene, it is revealed that Weapon XI is still alive in the rubble of the cooling tower. In an alternate post-credits scene, Logan is revealed to have traveled to Japan.

Thousands of years before the events of the first film, the Dynasty of Primes traveled through the galaxy to create Energon by creating sun-absorbing machines called Sun Harvesters. The Dynasty of Primes followed a law that no sun may be destroyed where there was life on one of its planets. However, one of the Primes felt hatred towards the human race and attempted to break this law by building a Sun Harvester on Earth in 17,000 B.C . The rest of the Dynasty named him The Fallen, and sacrificed themselves to hide the Sun Harvester's key, the "Matrix of Leadership".

Two years after the first film, Sam Witwicky is heading off to college. While packing, he finds a shard of the All Spark in the clothing he was wearing during the fight. Unbeknownst to Sam, when he touches the shard, it "uploads" its knowledge into his mind. Sam gives the shard to his girlfriend Mikaela Banes for safekeeping, and leaves his guardian Bumblebee behind.

The Autobots and the humans have created NEST (Network Elements: Supporters and Transformers), an elite joint military organization from multiple countries from the top elite soldiers on the planet led by Optimus Prime, Major William Lennox and General Morshower. In Shanghai, Optimus takes down Demolishor who warns him of The Fallen's return. Reporting to NEST's base in Diego Garcia, the Autobots are patronized by U.S. National Security Advisor Galloway for their actions. Soundwave, a Decepticon communications officer, hacks into a U.S military satellite, and overhears both the location of Megatron's corpse (buried at sea in the Laurentian Abyss) and the presence of a shard of the Allspark stored at the base. Soundwave deploys Ravage to retrieve the shard. The Constructicons, Ravage and the mad surgeon known as "The Doctor" dive into the Laurentian Abyss and resurrect Megatron with the salvaged shard. Megatron flies to the Decepticon flagship Nemesis, where The Fallen rests and Starscream has awaited Megatron's arrival. The Fallen instructs Megatron to kill Optimus and capture Sam, as he has knowledge that can lead to the Matrix of Leadership.

At her shop, Wheelie tries to steal Mikaela's shard, but she captures him in the process and heads to see Sam with Wheelie locked in a container. At college, Sam meets his roommate Leo Spitz, who runs a conspiracy website. During class, Sam experiences a flash of Cybertronian symbols in his mind. He has a meltdown in class and starts graffiting the symbols all around his room. Mikaela arrives just as Sam is attacked by a Pretender. Sam, Mikaela and Leo escape, but are quickly captured by the Decepticons torturing Sam to obtain the information he has about the whereabouts of the Matrix. Optimus and Bumblebee arrive and battle Megatron, Starscream, and Grindor. Grindor is killed, Starscream is wounded and Megatron then kills Optimus by impaling Optimus's chest and firing. Bumblebee and the twins, Skids and Mudflap, flee with the humans. The NEST team extracts the body of Optimus and returns it to New Jersey base until a convoy of the U.S. Army arrives with weapons all aimed at the Autobots. Lennox tells them to stand down, but Galloway arrives with the news that NEST has been decommissioned.

Meanwhile, The Fallen taps into media signals and broadcasts a demand that the people of Earth deliver Sam to the Decepticons. The Decepticons then also kidnap Sam's parents. Leo suggests to Sam and Mikaela that his online rival "RoboWarrior" may be able to help. When the trio find him, they discover that RoboWarrior is Agent Simmons from the now defunct Sector Seven (as seen in the 2007 Transformers film). Simmons reveals Transformers have been on Earth for a millennium, and convinces Wheelie to reveal a group of ancient Transformers who live on Earth, known as the Seekers. They find the elderly Jetfire who teleports them to Egypt and reveals the history of the Transformers.

Following several clues, the trio find the Tomb of the Primes in Petra. Led to an ancient Egyptian temple, the group discovers the Tomb, with the Matrix however crumbling to dust upon Sam touching it. Sam puts the sand in a pouch to take with him. Simmons contacts Lennox who flies over with his troops and the Autobots. The Decepticons arrive and battle the Autobots and NEST, who are aided by Egyptian and Jordanian military. Constructicon Devastator uncovers the Sun Harvester from inside a pyramid before being killed by a rail gun strike ordered by Simmons. The Air Force is called in for an airstrike from every aircraft in their fleet, wiping out the Decepticons, leaving only Megatron and Starscream. Sam makes a break for it towards Optimus until he is killed by Megatron. In a limbo between life and death, Sam has a vision of the Dynasty of the Primes who tell him that the Matrix of Leadership is not a physical item, but a right that he has earned.

Sam awakens, and the Matrix reforms from the sand in Sam's pouch. Sam uses the Matrix to resurrect Optimus Prime, but The Fallen arrives and retrieves the Matrix in order to activate the Sun Harvester. The U.S. military forces attack the Sun Harvester, but are quickly wiped out by The Fallen's telekinesis. Combined with Jetfire who willingly sacrifices his Spark and parts, Optimus destroys the Sun Harvester, kills The Fallen, and wounds Megatron. Starscream convinces Megatron to retreat. Sam and Mikaela profess their love for each other, and Optimus thanks Sam for his bravery and records another message in his data bank saying that the humans and the Transformers share a common past. During the credits, Sam is seen returning to college.

In 2003, Doctor Serena Kogan (Helena Bonham Carter) of Cyberdyne Systems convinces death row inmate Marcus Wright (Sam Worthington) to sign his body over for medical research following his execution by lethal injection. One year later the Skynet system is activated, perceives humans as a threat to its own existence, and eradicates much of humanity in the event known as "Judgment Day" (as depicted in Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines).

In 2018, John Connor (Christian Bale) leads a Resistance attack on a Skynet base. John discovers human prisoners and schematics for a new type of Terminator incorporating living tissue, but he is the only apparent survivor of the attack after the base is destroyed in a nuclear explosion. However, Marcus emerges from the wreckage of the base and proceeds on foot to Los Angeles.

John returns to Resistance headquarters located aboard a nuclear submarine and tells General Ashdown (Michael Ironside), the current leader, of his discovery. Meanwhile, the Resistance has discovered a radio frequency believed to be capable of sending an order to shut down Skynet machines. They plan to launch an offensive against the Skynet base in San Francisco in four days, in response to an intercepted "kill list" indicating that Skynet plans to kill the Resistance's command staff in a week's time. John learns that his own name is second on the list, following a civilian named Kyle Reese. The Resistance leaders are unaware of Kyle's importance, but John knows that it is because Kyle will later become his father (as depicted in The Terminator). John meets with his wife Kate (Bryce Dallas Howard) and his subordinate Barnes (Common), and transmits a radio broadcast to Resistance members and surviving civilians around the world.

Arriving in the ruins of Los Angeles, Marcus is saved from a T-600 Terminator by Kyle Reese (Anton Yelchin) and his mute child companion Star (Jadagrace Berry). Kyle informs Marcus about the war between humans and Skynet. Hearing John's radio broadcast, the three leave Los Angeles in search of the Resistance. They survive an attack, but Kyle, Star, and several other humans are taken prisoner.

Two Resistance A-10 airplanes are shot down when they try to intercept the machine transport and its escorts. Marcus locates downed pilot Blair Williams (Moon Bloodgood) and they make their way to John's base, but Marcus is wounded by a magnetic land mine. Attempting to save his life, the Resistance fighters discover that he is in fact a cyborg, with a mechanical endoskeleton, circuitry, and a partially artificial cerebral cortex. Marcus believes himself to be human, but John thinks that Marcus has been sent to kill him, and orders his destruction. However, Blair helps Marcus escape from the base. During the pursuit, Marcus saves John's life from Skynet hydrobots, and the two make a bargain: Marcus will enter Skynet's headquarters and attempt to help John rescue Kyle and the other prisoners.

John pleads with Ashdown to delay the attack, but Ashdown refuses and relieves John of his command. However, the Resistance forces disobey Ashdown's orders and await John's signal. Marcus enters the base, interfaces with the computer, and disables the perimeter defenses so that John can infiltrate the cell block and release the human prisoners. Marcus discovers that he was created by Skynet in order to lure John to the base; when the Resistance launches its attack, John will be killed, achieving the goal that Skynet had failed to accomplish so many times. The radio signal that the Resistance's plan depends on is a ruse. Skynet uses the signal to track down and destroy the command submarine with the Resistance leaders aboard.

Marcus tears out the hardware linking him to Skynet and assists John in battling a new T-800 model 101 Terminator. John is mortally wounded during the fight, but succeeds in destroying the Skynet base by rigging several Terminator fuel cells to explode, detonating them as he, Marcus, Kyle, and Star are airlifted out. Kate attempts to save John's life, but his heart is too damaged. Marcus offers his own heart for transplant, sacrificing himself to save John. Recovering, John radios to the other Resistance fighters that though this battle has been won, the war is far from over.
