RJ (Bruce Willis), is a raccoon who lives in Tucson, Arizona while foraging for food, encounters the hibernating black bear Vincent (Nick Nolte), and his large cache of commercially-packaged food. RJ tries to steal it, but instead wakes Vincent and causes the food to be crushed by a truck on a nearby road. Fearful of being eaten by Vincent, RJ promises to restore the cache within the week when Vincent has fully awakened from hibernation. RJ finds a nearby suburban community that has been recently erected, and a small forested plot where a pack of hibernating animals have just awoken, surprised to find a large hedge that separates the forest from the human community. Verne the box turtle (Garry Shandling), the group's elder, urges the others to start stashing food for next year. RJ appears to the group and tells them they can collect all the food they will need within a week by raiding the humans' trash and homes. Verne is extremely pessimistic about crossing the hedge, but RJ is able to convince the others to join him.

Initially, the animals only raid for food at night, but RJ realizes he needs to work faster to restore Vincent's cache, and organizes daring daytime stunts, such has having the opossum, Ozzie (William Shatner), feign being run over by a car allowing the other animals to steal food from it. Verne becomes extremely annoyed at RJ putting his "family" in danger. Meanwhile, Gladys Sharp (Allison Janney), the president of the development's homeowner association, realizes they have a vermin problem, and calls for help from Dwayne LaFontant (Thomas Haden Church), aka "The Verminator". Dwayne installs a high-powered extermination system in Sharp's backyard, including a contraband product known as the De-Pelter Turbo.

After one raid, RJ is surprised that the other animals now consider him part of their family, and provide him with a luxurious spot using items they've stolen from homes. RJ feels guilt over using the animals and attempts to tell the truth to Verne, but cannot do so. Meanwhile, Verne, still worried about his family's safety, attempts to return all the stolen food to the humans; RJ finds out and tries to stop him, but the wagon the food is on is dragged by a playful rottweiler, Nugent (Brian Stepanek), and eventually is destroyed. The other animals upon learning, are angry at Verne, who tries to convince them of RJ's manipulation, and accidentally makes a remark which convinces the animals he values himself above the rest of them.

With only one day before Vincent's deadline, RJ helps Verne reconcile with his friends and convinces the animals to do one more raid of Gladys' home after she has received a large supply of food for a dinner party the next day. They use Stella (Wanda Sykes), the skunk to lure Gladys' Persian cat Tiger (Omid Djalili) away while the other animals enter the kitchen and raid Gladys' pantry. By dawn, they are nearly done when RJ spots one last item to replace on Vincent's list, a can of "Spuddies" potato chips; despite Verne trying to get them to leave, RJ insists on getting the can, forcing him to reveal the truth about the food and Vincent. Gladys wakes up and catches the animals in the act. After, Stella goes into the kitchen and sprays her stench. As the animals try to flee, Dwayne comes in and is able to catch them all except for RJ, who abandons the group to return the food to Vincent.

As Dwayne starts to drive away with the caged animals, RJ delivers the food to Vincent, but at the last moment, has a change of heart and uses the wagon with the food to catch up to Dwayne's van, followed by an angry Vincent. The impact stuns Dwayne and frees the other animals, who turn the van around to return home. Meanwhile, RJ is chased by Vincent atop the van, refused to allow to come inside by the other animals who consider him a traitor. Eventually, Verne is able to convince the other animals that RJ is trying to help them, and they turn to help RJ defend himself from the bear. With no control, the van eventually makes a jump and flies through Gladys' home, destroying it.

The animals flee into the hedge, trapped by Vincent on one side and Gladys and Dwayne on the other. RJ and Verne come up with a plan, initiated by giving the hyperactive squirrel Hammy (Steve Carrell) an energy drink. RJ jumps out of the hedge to lure Vincent into Gladys' yard, while Hammy, moving at superhuman speed, activates the new extermination system, the De-Pelter Turbo. Gladys, Dwayne, and Vincent fall into a pile as the high-powered system comes on-line, producing a large beam of bright light that fries and stuns the trio and drops a cage upon them. Vincent is taken away by animal control to the Rockies, while both Gladys and Dwayne are charged with the highly-illegal extermination system, though Gladys retaliates by attacking an officer and tries to escape but is soon pinned down by another officer while Dwayne is able to escape from custody only to run into Nugent, who savagely chews on him. The animals regroup in the forest, and Verne assures RJ that if he had told them he needed help, they would have gladly given it because "that's what families do", and re-welcomes him to their family; Tiger, also now owner-less but attracted to Stella, is also welcomed. The animals find that while Hammy was in his caffeine-charged state, he had refilled their food cache with nuts to satisfy them for the year.

In a post-credits scene, the animals go to the vending machine seen in the beginning of the film and operate it in such a way that every product falls into the access bin. However, the amount of snacks prevents the access door from opening, prompting "Well, this is anti-climactic" from Hammy.

The story begins with an underachieving bluestreak cleaner wrasse named Oscar (Will Smith), who is fantasizing about being rich and famous while making his way to work by following in his dad's footsteps as a tongue scrubber at the local Whale Wash. Soon after arriving he is called to the office of his boss, a puffer fish named Sykes (Martin Scorsese), to discuss the fact that he owes "five thousand clams" and has to pay it back by the next day. After explaining this to his best friend Angie who is an angel fish (Renée Zellweger), she offers him a chance to pay back the money by pawning a pink pearl that was a gift from her Grandmother. Oscar brings the money to the race track to meet Sykes, but becomes distracted by his wishes of grandeur and, upon hearing that the race is rigged, places it all on a long-shot bet by the name of "Lucky Day". Such a million dollar bet is noticed nearby by a beautiful lionfish named Lola (Angelina Jolie), who flagrantly seduces an excited Oscar, but Oscar is very disappointed when she leaves once Sykes tells her he is a whale washer. Sykes is furious that Oscar bet the money but nonetheless agrees to see how the race turns out. Moments before their "horse", "Lucky Day" crosses the finish line he trips and falls on line. The race is lost and Oscar is set to be punished in a secluded area for his impulsiveness.

Meanwhile, on another side of the ocean, a family of criminally-inclined great white sharks has a problem with one of their sons, Lenny (Jack Black) (who is a Vegetarian) . Lenny refuses to act the part of a killer and wishes to not have to live up to those expectations. Finally his father, Don Lino (Robert De Niro) loses patience and orders Lenny's more savage big brother Frankie (Michael Imperioli) to show Lenny the ropes. As the two sharks set out to go in accordance with their father's wishes, Frankie spots the scene where Oscar is being electrocuted by Ernie and Bernie (Doug E. Doug & Ziggy Marley), Sykes' two Jamaican Physalia physalis thugs, and sends Lenny off to attack. The jellyfish spot Lenny and swim off, leaving Oscar alone with him. Lenny frees Oscar but fails to trick Frankie, who becomes annoyed and charges at Oscar when an anchor falls and kills him. Lenny flees, overcome with grief and guilt. As no one saw the deed done and Oscar was seen near the body, everyone thinks he did it, and Oscar sees this as the chance to both redeem himself and receive his fame.

Oscar comes back to the city with a new title of the Sharkslayer. Sykes becomes his manager, Lola becomes his girlfriend, and Oscar moves to the "top of the reef" to live in luxury. At the same time, Don Lino has everyone out looking for Lenny, and when several get close to Oscar's town the other fish expect him to drive them away. On the way he meets Lenny once more who forces Oscar to let him stay with him because he does not want to go home. Soon Angie finds out about the lie and threatens to tell everyone but Oscar and Lenny convince her to keep quiet. Although Oscar desires to please everyone, he soon discovers that he pleases no one; his paramour Angie is heartbroken by the fact that Oscar is no longer honest, while her hedonistic rival Lola repeatedly reminds Oscar that he has her only as long as he is famous. With Don Lino planning revenge, Oscar and Lenny stage an event where Lenny pretends to terrorize the town and Oscar must defeat him, throwing him into the depths of the ocean. Though this further cements Oscar as the Sharkslayer, it greatly angers Don Lino. Oscar leaves Lola for Angie after Angie reveals that she had feelings for Oscar even before he became famous, but this leaves Lola determined to get revenge.

Oscar buys some Valentine's Day gifts for Angie, but before he can present them to her, he finds that Don Lino has kidnapped Angie in order to force a sit-down. Lenny comes along, now disguised as a dolphin named Sebastian. They arrive at the meeting to find Lola next to Don Lino, while Angie is bound and gagged with duct tape and presented to Don Lino on a plate, who prepares to eat her if Oscar doesn't comply. Oscar just laughs and Lenny as "Sebastian" lunges forward to scoop Angie into his mouth, freeing her from Don Lino and giving Oscar dominance over the sharks. However, he spends too much time threatening the sharks and doesn't realize how much pain Lenny is in, and Angie is regurgitated onto the table. Don Lino suddenly realizes it's Lenny and proceeds to chase Oscar through the reef, but Oscar heads for the whale wash and ends up trapping both sharks. Given an ovation by the other fish, Oscar confesses that he is not a "Sharkslayer" and that it was an anchor that had killed Frankie. He then strongly urges Don Lino not to prejudge people before he knows them properly and to not make the mistake he made in prejudging his wealth, so Don Lino and Lenny reconcile. Oscar forsakes all the wealth he has acquired, makes peace with the sharks, becomes manager of the Whale Wash (now frequented by sharks), and starts dating Angie and starts to have a happy, honest life.

In the post-scene credits Lola comes to see Oscar in the top of the reef but all she finds is Crazy Joe a hermit crab.

Lewis, an aspiring young inventor at an orphanage, has yet to be adopted. Believing that his real mother is the only person who really loves him, he decides to work on a machine to scan his memory to locate her. However, he spends so much time on it that he keeps his roommate Michael "Goob" Yagoobian awake. As a result, Goob falls asleep during an important Little League game.

When Lewis takes his memory scanner to his school's science fair, he meets Wilbur Robinson, a mysterious boy who claims to be a "time cop" from the future. Wilbur says that a man wearing a bowler hat has stolen a time machine that Wilbur needs to recover. When Lewis tries to demonstrate the scanner, it falls apart, throwing everything into chaos. Upset, Lewis leaves the fair while the Bowler Hat Guy, with the help of a robotic bowler hat named Doris, repairs and steals the scanner.

Wilbur follows Lewis to the orphanage and asks him to repair the scanner. Lewis says he'll only do so if Wilbur can prove he is telling the truth, which Wilbur does by taking Lewis to the future in a second time machine. When they arrive, however, Lewis refuses to return, saying he can use the time machine instead. He and Wilbur get into an argument and crash. Wilbur asks Lewis to repair the machine, which Lewis will only do if Wilbur takes him back to visit his mother afterward. Reluctantly, Wilbur agrees and hides Lewis in the garage, but the latter leaves and meets the rest of Wilbur's eccentric family except for Cornelius, Wilbur's father.

Following Wilbur and Lewis to the future, the Bowler Hat Guy and Doris unsuccessfully try to kidnap Lewis. Meanwhile, the Robinsons offer to adopt Lewis, but change their mind when they learn that he's from the past. Wilbur then admits to lying to Lewis about taking the latter back to see his mom. Lewis runs away in disgust and meets the Bowler Hat Guy, who gives him enough clues to figure out that Lewis is Cornelius and the Bowler Hat Guy is Goob. After losing the Little League game, Goob had become so bitter that he was never adopted and remained in the orphanage long after it closed. Doris was "DOR-15," one of Lewis' failed and abandoned inventions. They both blamed Lewis for their misfortunes and decided to ruin his career by stealing the memory scanner and claiming credit for it.

The Bowler Hat Guy and Doris take off with the scanner, drastically altering the future to a world minus Wilbur and dominated by Doris clones. Lewis discovers that after stealing the scanner, Doris had taken over, reducing mankind to mindless slaves. He repairs the second time machine, goes to confront Doris and destroys her by promising to never invent her, restoring the future to its utopian self.

Back in Wilbur's time, Lewis finally meets Cornelius, who explains how the memory scanner had started their successful career. Lewis then decides to return to the science fair, but Wilbur makes one stop first: as he promised, he takes Lewis back to the moment when his mother abandoned him. Lewis nearly stops her from leaving the infant at the orphanage, but decides not to, explaining to Wilbur that he already has a family.

Wilbur drops Lewis off in his own time and leaves. Lewis heads to the fair, but stops long enough to wake up Goob just in time for him to make the winning catch. Back at the fair, Lewis asks for one more chance to demonstrate his invention, which this time succeeds. He is adopted by Lucille, one of the science fair judges, and her husband Bud, who nickname him "Cornelius" and take him to their home. As Lewis leaves, he turns and waves at Goob, who is leaving the orphanage with a Little League trophy and a new family. The movie ends with a quote by Walt Disney containing Lewis/Cornelius' motto: "Keep Moving Forward."

A gang of thieves break into a high-security warehouse. An alert is sent to the police, but canceled for unknown reasons. Despite this, two LAPD patrol officers, Hank Rafferty (Zahn) and his partner Charlie (Timothy Busfield), decide to check it out anyway. As they split up to search the warehouse, someone shoots at Charlie, killing him, before the thieves drive away, leaving Hank in a state of shock.

Earl Montgomery's (Lawrence) lifelong dream is to become a police officer. He passes the entrance exam with flying colors, but his promising performance during training is hampered by his unshakable conviction that all black persons are innocent victims of white racism. For instance: confronted by cardboard cutouts of an armed gang, Earl shoots all of them except the black one, explaining to his incredulous instructor that the black one is obviously an innocent bystander (even with the thug in the cutout wielding a Desert Eagle pistol). Earl is finally expelled from the police academy when he tries an outrageous stunt during a simulated car chase that results in a massive explosion on the obstacle course.

A dispirited Hank crosses paths with Earl when Hank notices Earl trying to get into his car when he finds his keys stuck inside. Suspicious, Hank starts to question Earl, who race-baits Hank to the point of getting himself arrested. As soon as he's cuffed, however, a bumblebee comes along, to which Earl is virulently allergic. Earl panics and Hank tries to swat the bee away with his nightstick. From afar, it looks like Hank, a white cop, is brutalizing a black suspect, a story that Earl eagerly backs up in Court. Disgraced, Hank is dismissed from the police force and convicted of aggravated assault by an all-black jury. He spends six months in prison, almost entirely in voluntary solitary confinement, due to death threats from the black inmates.

After being released from prison, Hank takes a job as a security guard and continues to investigate Charlie's death, despite his lack of access to police information. Noticing an alarm being tripped at a soft drink warehouse, then disabled, Hank notices the similarity with the earlier burglary, and goes to investigate.

Meanwhile, Earl, who happens to be working for the same security company, is on duty at the warehouse, but is taking time off for some role-playing with his girlfriend, Lola (Mari Morrow). When Hank arrives, he interrupts a burglary, and a gunfight erupts with the thugs, during which Hank and Earl cross paths again. Though the thugs get away, Hank recognizes the tattoo of the man who shot Charlie, whose name he learns is Nash (Eric Roberts).

One of the thieves dropped a cellular phone, which leads them to a semi truck rented by the killers. Inside, Hank and Earl find a van, which Hank recognizes from the earlier robbery. In a brief skirmish on a bridge, they drive the van out of the truck but the van falls off the bridge onto a garbage barge. Inside the van are what look like ordinary beer kegs, but Hank has them examined by a friend who works at a foundry, who informs them that the kegs are actually made of an aerospace alloy, which is worth millions.

Hank takes the van and the kegs to the house of his ex-girlfriend, Denise (Robinne Lee). They broke up after Hank was arrested, and, since Earl owes Hank for saving his life during the warehouse shootout, Hank orders Earl to tell Denise the truth about the "assault." However, when Earl sees that Denise is an attractive black woman, he forgets his promise and starts hitting on her, playing the victim again. She throws both of them out of the house, and when Hank asks for an explanation, Earl reveals that he disapproves of interracial dating. Hank is infuriated and points out that for all his talk about racism, it is actually Earl himself who is the racist. During the argument, Hank punches Earl and storms off. Earl runs back to Hank, just as they are both cornered by police, learning that they are wanted as suspects in the bridge shootout. After they manage to escape, Hank realizes that the thieves must have an inside man in the police department.

Tracing the van's owner to an address Hank and Earl stake out the place, but Earl foolishly rushes inside on his own, where he is confronted by Nash. Hank manages to get Earl to safety, but Earl takes a bullet in the leg. Since the police are looking for them, they can't go to a hospital, but instead return to Denise's house. She reluctantly agrees to treat Earl's wound (which is, in fact, little more than a graze). Fortunately for Hank, a bee flies into the house, and Earl runs for cover, making Denise realize that Hank's outlandish story about the "assault" on Earl was actually true. She throws Earl out of the house and reconciles with Hank.

Based on something overheard from Nash, they follow him to a meeting at a Yacht Club with Detective Frank McDuff (Colm Feore), the police traitor. Hank and Earl share everything they know with Lt. Washington (Bill Duke), and then pretend to approach McDuff, offering to sell him back the "beer kegs" for a large sum of money. However, Nash gets wind of their plans and takes Washington hostage first.

During the climactic confrontation, Earl and Hank meet with McDuff, Nash and his men near the coast, rescuing Washington and killing or apprehending most of the thugs, including McDuff. During the shootout, Hank saves Earl's life by warning him about a gunman taking aim at him, getting shot himself in the process. Though wounded, Hank takes off after Nash alone and kills him by dropping a crane load onto an unstable slab Nash is standing on, flipping him over a cliff and into the ocean.

In honor of their heroic actions, Hank is reinstated in the LAPD and Earl is admitted to the force, and they are made partners a short time later. While on patrol, Hank sees a suspicious-looking man trying to break into a car, but Earl assures him that the man has just locked himself out, and helps unlock the car. But as the man drives away, the car's real owner screams, and Earl, realizing his mistake, shoots the back tires out. He tells the owner she can "re-procure" her car, at which moment the car blows up, leaving both cops dumbfounded.

The film starts with Carter (Tucker) directing traffic. Concurrently, Chinese Ambassador Han addresses the importance of fighting the Triads at the World Criminal Court, announcing that he may know the whereabouts of Shy Shen, a semi-mythical individual of great importance to the Triads. Before announcing,an assassin shoots and Han takes a bullet in the shoulder, disrupting the conference. Detective Lee (Chan) pursues the shooter and corners him, discovering that the assassin is his Japanese foster brother Kenji (Sanada). When Lee hesitates to shoot Kenji, he makes his escape.

In the hospital, Lee learns that Han will make a full recovery. Han's daughter, Soo-Yung (Zhang), now grown up, arrives and makes Lee and Carter promise to capture the one behind the shooting. She then informs Lee and Carter that her father gave her an envelope which contains important information regarding the Triad, and that the envelope is in her locker at the martial arts studio where she teaches. Lee and Carter make their way to the studio, but find out that a gang of armed men have already arrived and emptied it. The duo are then told by the Master of the studio that Soo-Yung and Han are in danger, and rush back to the hospital.

Once the two reach the hospital, a gang of assassins arrive to kill Soo-Yung and Han. Lee and Carter manage to defeat them. They interrogate the leader of the assassins but find that he only speaks French. With the help of a fellow nun Sister Agnes (Dana Ivey), who can speak French, translates for them and Carter and Lee find out that they are marked for death by the Triad along with Soo-Yung and Han. For her protection, they take her to the French Embassy and leave her under the care of Reynard (von Sydow), the French ambassador and the chairman of the World Criminal Court. When a car bomb nearly kills Reynard and Soo-Yung the duo decides to go to Paris to investigate.

In Paris, after getting a painful cavity search from a Parisian commissioner (Polanski) Lee and Carter meet up with George, a taxi driver (Attal), who is prejudiced against Americans. He drives them to a Triad hideout. Once there, Lee fights off a Triad assassin named Jasmine (Kudoh) while Carter meets a beautiful woman whose name is not disclosed (Lenoir). Lee and Carter escape and Reynard later tells Lee that Shy Shen is not a person, but a list of the Triad leaders and reveals that Han's informant knows where to find it. The informant turns out to be Geneviève, the woman Carter met at the gentlemen's club.

After the two locate Geneviève, they save her from an assassination attempt by the Triads and flee to their hotel room. Privately, Carter tries to interrogate Genviève but they find themselves falling in love with each other. However, they are attacked again by Jasmine who sneaks up behind Carter and Genevieve who are about to make love in bed. No longer safe at the hotel, they decide to hide out with George, who now has developed a great appreciation for the United States. Lee and Carter learn that Geneviève not only knows where the list is, but that she is the list. The names of the thirteen Triad leaders have been tattooed on the back of her head, as per tradition, and Geneviève explains that she will be decapitated and buried if the Triads capture her. When Lee and Carter bring Geneviève to Reynard, he accidentally reveals that he has been working with the Triads all along. Kenji calls and informs Lee that he has captured Soo-Yung and that he would like to exchange her for Geneviève.

Lee arrives at the exchange point, the Jules Verne Restaurant in the Eiffel Tower, with Carter disguised as Geneviève. Kenji challenges Lee to a sword fight, during which the two fall off the tower and get caught in a safety net. Kenji's sword cuts the safety net open and it collapses, leaving both men hanging on for dear life. Lee grabs Kenji's arm, intending to save his life. Kenji says his final goodbye to Lee and willingly lets go of him as he falls to his death, saving Lee's life. Lee then manages to climb up to safety. Meanwhile, Carter saves Soo-Yung and they defeat Jasmine who gets stuck between a large wheel and is split in half (off camera).

As Carter and Lee send Soo-Yung down the elevator to safety, they make their escape from the Triads by gliding down to safety with a large French flag. Unfortunately, they are confronted by Reynard, holding Geneviève hostage and threatening to kill her and frame them. However, George, having followed Lee and Carter, shoots Reynard from behind. The police arrive, with the commissioner who earlier gave out the cavity searches gloating and trying to get undeserved credit. After giving the commissioner a team punch to the face, Lee and Carter leave the scene dancing to the song "War" by Edwin Starr.

L.A.P.D. Detective James Carter (Chris Tucker) is on vacation in Hong Kong, visiting his good friend Hong Kong Police Force Chief Inspector Lee (Jackie Chan). Carter is interested in having a good time; however, soon after he arrives, a bomb explodes at the American Consulate. Inspector Lee is assigned to the case, which becomes personal when it is discovered that it somehow involves Ricky Tan (John Lone), his late police officer father's former partner. Tan, who was suspected, but never proven, of having a role in Lee's father's death, is now a leader of the Triads.

The United States Secret Service, led by Agent Sterling (Harris Yulin), and the Hong Kong Police Force soon get into a fight over the jurisdiction of the case. Lee, believing Tan is the head of the operation, learns that Tan will be attending a dinner party on his yacht. Tan scolds his underling, Hu Li (Zhang Ziyi), who then leaves as Lee and Carter confront Tan. Tan claims that someone is trying to frame him. Hu Li suddenly appears and shoots Ricky Tan, making her escape in the chaos, and an angry Sterling holds Lee responsible for Tan's death, and orders him off the case. Carter is ordered to be flown back to Los Angeles for involving himself. However, Lee and Carter return to Los Angeles together.

On the plane, Carter tells Lee that in every large criminal operation, there is a rich white man behind it and that man is Steven Reign (Alan King), a Los Angeles hotel billionaire that Carter says he saw on Tan's boat and that his calm demeanor during the shooting was suspicious. They set up camp outside the Reign Towers, spotting a sexy Secret Service agent named Isabella Molina (Roselyn Sánchez), whom Carter met on Ricky Tan's yacht. After they watch Molina undress, and a few misunderstandings, Molina tells the two men that she is undercover, looking into Reign's money laundering of US$ 100 million dollars in superdollars (high grade counterfeit US$ 100 bills).

Lee and Carter pay a visit to Kenny (Don Cheadle), an ex-con known to Carter who runs a gambling den in the back of the Chinese restaurant he owns. He tells them that a usually broke customer recently came in to his establishment with a suspicious amount of hundred-dollar bills. Carter speculates them and confirms that they are Reign's counterfeits. They trace the money back to a bank friendly to the Triads, who are waiting for them and knock the two cops unconscious, with Molina looking on. After arriving in Las Vegas, Lee and Carter wake up inside one of the Triads' trucks and escape. After finding out where they are, they realize that Reign is laundering the $100 million through the new Red Dragon Casino (filmed at the now demolished Desert Inn).

At the Red Dragon, Lee and Carter split up. Lee attempts to infiltrate the back area to find the engraving plates (which were used to make the counterfeit money) while Carter makes a distraction, to attract all the security allowing Lee to pass, However, Hu Li captures Lee and places a small bomb in his mouth, then takes him up to the penthouse, where it is revealed that Ricky Tan faked his death and, as Lee suspected, is in charge of the operation. Tan soon departs the room, and Molina attempts to arrest Hu Li. In the enusing chaos, Carter is able to free Lee from the bomb in his mouth before Hu Li has the chance to detonate it. Carter then fights Hu Li, while Lee heads to the penthouse to prevent Tan from escaping with the plates.

In the penthouse, Reign opens the safe and takes the plates, running into Tan as he leaves. After Reign announces he is cutting their deal short and keeping the plates, Tan stabs him with a knife, killing him. Lee arrives and confronts Tan, along with Carter who shortly appears after (accidentally) knocking out Hu Li. After a tense standoff, where Tan admits he killed Lee's father, Tan tries to break free, but Lee kicks Tan out of the window and he falls to his death. Hu Li then enters, holding a time bomb. Lee and Carter leap out of the window just as the bomb goes off, killing Hu Li, They slide on decoration wires with their jackets and barely escaping the traffic on the street in the process.

Later, at the airport, Sterling thanks Lee for his work on the case. Molina says she would like to tell Lee something, and proceeds to kiss him for a short time, an event witnessed from afar by Carter. Lee and Carter plan to go their separate ways, but Lee reveals that he has always wanted to go to Madison Square Garden and watch a New York Knicks basketball game. Carter tells Lee he could go for one more vacation, and the two of them decide to go to the Big Apple.

A number of outtakes play during the end credits. When Lee kicks Tan out of the Red Dragon, Carter says "Damn, he ain't gonna be in Rush Hour 3!"

On the last day of British rule in Hong Kong late 1997, Detective Inspector Lee (Jackie Chan) of the Hong Kong police leads a raid at a shipping bar wharf, hoping to arrest the mysterious crime lord Juntao. He finds only Sang (Ken Leung), Juntao's right hand man, who manages to escape. However, Lee successfully recovers numerous Chinese cultural treasures stolen by Juntao, which he presents as a farewell victory to his departing superiors: Chinese Consul Solon Han (Tzi Ma) and British Commander Thomas Griffin (Tom Wilkinson).

Shortly after Han arrives in the United States to take up his new diplomatic post in Los Angeles, his daughter, Soo Yung, is kidnapped while on her way to her first day of school. The leader of the kidnappers is none other than Sang. Shortly after this incident, the FBI inform Consul Han, who calls in Lee to assist in the case.

Meanwhile, in America, Detective James Carter (Chris Tucker) of the LAPD is doing undercover work at a doughnut shop to meet a man named Clive (Chris Penn) who is trying to sell Carter some C4 explosive out of his trunk. Two cops then pull into the doughnut shop and see the two suspicious men looking in Clive's truck. They then proceed to pull out their guns and tell them to freeze, not realizing Carter is undercover. Clive ends up shooting the cops and driving away, and while doing so, Carter is firing at Clive's car. Clive jumps out of the moving car just before it explodes. Carter then runs up to Clive and arrests him.

The FBI, afraid that the injury or death of Lee would result in negative attention, pawn him off on the LAPD Captain Diel, who gives the assignment to Detective James Carter. The captain picked Carter after being upset about him destroying a city block and losing evidence while in pursuit of Clive, as well as just being annoying and arrogant. However, the Captain acts as though he picked Carter especially for the case and tricks Carter into thinking the FBI truly wants him. Carter is ecstatic for he has had aspirations of joining the FBI. Carter, after discovering the real assignment, calls the Captain saying he wants off the case. Captain Diel then gives him a choice: keep Lee away from the investigation or face two months suspension without pay. Carter reluctantly agrees, secretly intending to solve the case himself.

Carter meets Lee at the Los Angeles International Airport and then proceeds to take him on a sightseeing tour of Los Angeles, simultaneously keeping Lee away from the embassy and contacting several of his underworld informants about the kidnapping. Lee finally escapes Carter and makes his way to the Chinese Consulate, where an anxious Han and a group of FBI agents are awaiting news about his daughter. While being reprimanded by Agent-in-charge Warren Russ (Mark Rolston), Carter manages to accidentally involve himself in a phone conversation with one of the kidnappers (Sang), where he poorly arranges a ransom drop of $50 million.

After their arrival at the agreed drop point, Lee tries to warn the FBI that something is amiss, but is ignored until a bomb inside the building is detonated, killing several agents. Spotting Sang nearby, Lee and Carter give chase, but Sang escapes, dropping a strange detonator in the process. After showing it to Carter's colleague, LAPD bomb expert Tania Johnson (Elizabeth Peña), they learn that the detonator could blow up C4, which takes us back to Clive. Carter and Lee go to take a visit to the county jail where Clive is hoping to gain some information. Clive refuses to tell the cocky Carter anything, and believes Carter wants to frame him. Lee then intervenes, stating all he cares about is the little girl, that she is only eleven years old, and is in grave danger. Clive tells the duo about Juntao and that they can find him at a restaurant in Chinatown.

At the restaurant, Carter is captured after going in alone, though he sees a surveillance video of Juntao carrying Soo-Yung into a van. Lee arrives and rescues Carter, and they are met outside by the FBI, led by Russ, who blames them for ruining the ransom exchange. Sang phones the consul, angrily telling him that the ransom has been increased from $50 million to $70 million, and threatens to kill Soo Yung if anything else goes wrong. Disgraced and guilt-ridden, Lee and Carter are ordered off the investigation, and Lee is informed that he will be sent back to Hong Kong. Carter refuses to drop the case and confronts Lee on his plane to enlist his help, and the two men decide to save Soo-Yung together.

The final confrontation comes at the opening of a Chinese art exhibition at the Los Angeles Convention Center, which Han and Griffin are overseeing, while the ransom is being delivered. Carter, Lee, and Johnson enter disguised as guests. After Carter recognizes Griffin from Chinatown, he creates a scene by alerting the spectators about a bomb threat in the building and tells them to evacuate. In the confusion, Lee sees Sang handing Griffin a detonator identical to the one he and Carter had previously recovered, deducing that Griffin and Juntao are one and the same person. Griffin/Juntao then threatens to detonate a bomb vest attached to Soo Yung if the delivery is interrupted. During the stand-off, however, Carter manages to sneak out and locate Soo Yung. Carter proceeds to take the vest off her, but Soo Yung confesses to him that she heard them say that the vest will go off if anyone tries to take it off incorrectly. Carter then drives the van into the building and brings the bomb vest within range to kill everyone inside the exhibition.

After a gunfight breaks out, Lee and Johnson climb into the back of the van and Johnson manages to get the vest off Soo Yung, but tells Lee that it still can be set off with the remote. Lee then takes the vest and pursues Griffin. Meanwhile Griffin goes up to the upstairs control room and shoots the agents up there, including Russ. A few moments later, Sang also goes into the control room and starts putting money into another briefcase. Then Russ, who was not killed by Griffin, groans, and Sang turns his gun on him. Just as he is about to shoot Russ, he is interrupted by Carter, who tells him that he is alone. Sang then challenges Carter to 'fight like a man'. Carter agrees, but as both men put their guns down, both bring out their alternative guns, and Carter shoots Sang dead in the process. Meanwhile, Griffin attempts to escape with the ransom money, and Lee pursues him up several sets of maintenance ladders. During the pursuit, both men fall over the rail with Lee holding onto a rafter and Griffin holding onto the bomb vest, which Lee is now wearing. The money falls out of the case that Griffin was holding. The bomb vest then rips apart, sending Griffin falling to his death into a fountain below, Lee then loses his grip and falls from the rafters, but Carter is able to rescue Lee by placing a large flag under him to catch him.

Han and Soo Yung are reunited, and Han sends Carter and Lee on vacation together to Hong Kong. Before Carter leaves, Agents Russ and Whitney offer him a position in the FBI, which he rudely refuses. The film ends with Lee and Carter enjoying their flight to Hong Kong. Carter shows off a couple of lines of Chinese to Lee (who is very impressed, as he had no idea Carter spoke Chinese), and then immediately requests a new seat as Lee breaks into a chorus of Edwin Starr's War.

Barry B. Benson (Jerry Seinfeld) is "just an ordinary bee" in a hive located in Sheep's Meadow in Central Park in New York City. Barry recently graduated from college and is about to enter the hive's Honex Industries (a division of Honesco Corporation and owned by the Hexagon Group) honey-making workforce. Along with his best friend Adam Flayman (Matthew Broderick), Barry is initially very excited, but his latent, non-conformist attitude emerges upon finding out that his choice of job will never change once picked. This prompts Barry to leave the hive and see the world on a daily run with the macho, elite "Pollen Jocks", though Adam tries to talk Barry out of it. He thoroughly enjoys his new freedom, and is impressed by the process of nectar collection and pollination, but after being stuck to a tennis ball during a game and flying through a panicky family's car he decides humans are crazy and that he should go home. Unfortunately, it begins to rain and he crash lands on a windowsill. The apartment's occupants have just come home and they close the window before Barry can escape. After freaking out the people inside and nearly being squashed, he is rescued by a female florist human named Vanessa Bloome (Renée Zellweger) and gently put back outside. This unexpected act of kindness intrigues Barry, who goes back in to thank the woman even though doing so would violate Bee Law #1, "Don't talk to humans". Despite both of their expectations they develop an instant bond, bordering on attraction, and start hanging out together frequently. Of course all of their friends and family are completely upset by this relationship.

While they are going through a grocery store, Barry is shocked to discover that the humans have been stealing and eating the bees' honey for centuries, and decides to journey to Honey Farms, which supplies the grocery store with its honey. On the Honey Farms truck, he meets a mosquito named Mooseblood (Chris Rock). A windshield wiper flings the two in a tube and Barry tells Mooseblood about Honey Farms while Mooseblood tells him about how humans have always swatted mosquitoes. Mooseblood departs when he sees a Blood Mobile pass by, while Barry goes on to witness the artificial process by which the honey is gathered. He ultimately realizes that his true calling in life is to set the world right by suing the human race for stealing their precious honey. This is later shown on Hive at Five's especially on Bee Larry King starring a bee version of Larry King (voiced by Larry King). The trial initially goes well, until the main defense lawyer (John Goodman) goads Adam into stinging him by accusing Barry of several things which are insulting to the bees (having a pet-like relationship with Vanessa, being an illegitimate son, since all bees are sons of the queen bee and having incestuous flirtings with the female bees, since all bees are siblings) in order to show the less lovable side of bees, but Barry counters by producing the smoke-machine used by Honey Farms to drug and subdue their bees.

Barry wins the lawsuit, and all honey in the world is confiscated and returned to the bees. However, the defense lawyer warns them they are disrupting nature's balance meaning that the bees quit their jobs, which Adam comments to Vanessa that it might be true since bees had been living their previous lives over 27 million years. Too late, Barry and Vanessa realize that they were right: the sudden, massive stockpile of honey has put every bee out of a job, including the vitally important Pollen Jocks. Without bees pollinating the flowers, all plant life begins dying with the entire food chain close behind. To set things right, he and Vanessa find a way to save all the flowers by going to the Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, California and bringing back with them all the pollen-filled flowers to re-pollinate the world. Barry and Vanessa fly the flowers as luggage on a flight from Los Angeles International Airport to John F. Kennedy International Airport. The flight begins to take a detour due to lightning, which would be fatal to the flowers, and in trying to intervene Barry accidentally knocks out the terrified pilots. Vanessa joins him and tries unsuccessfully to fly the plane, but in the meantime millions of bees have rallied together and arrive at the last minute to help them safely land.

Armed with the pollen of the last flowers, Barry and the Pollen Jocks manage to reverse the damage and save the world's flowers, also restarting the bees' beloved honey production. Nothing is mentioned about the fate of companies like Honey Farms, though humans and bees are seen treating each other visibly better, and honey is supposed to be 'Bee approved'. Barry becomes a member of the Pollen Jocks, helping to pollinate the plants while also running a law firm inside Vanessa's flower shop, as well as helping Vanessa, switching the name from "Vanessa's Flowers" to "Vanessa and Barry: Flowers; Honey; Legal Advice". As the film closes, his office door reads "Insects at Law." Mooseblood also works in his office with him as a lawyer(stating that he is already a bloodsucking parasite and only needed a briefcase), which is shown when Barry is interviewing a cow about the human exploitation of her milk.

Roddy St. James (Hugh Jackman) is a decidedly upper crust pet mouse who makes his home in a posh Kensington flat. While his owners are away on holiday Roddy plays around the house. When a common sewer rat named Sid (Shane Richie) comes spewing out of the sink and decides to stay, especially as England are playing Germany in the World Cup final, Roddy schemes to get rid of Sid by luring him into the "jacuzzi", which is actually the toilet. Sid may be an ignorant slob, but being a sewer rat, he knows his plumbing. He plays along and instead pushes Roddy in and flushes him away into the sewer. There, Roddy meets Rita Malone (Kate Winslet), an enterprising scavenger rat who works the drains in her faithful boat, the Jammy Dodger. Rita does not like Roddy initially, but ends up taking him along as her arch enemy The Toad (Ian McKellen) sends his rat henchmen, Spike (Andy Serkis) and Whitey (Bill Nighy), after her because she had stolen back her father's prized ruby a long time ago. The Toad despises all rodents to the point of hateful obsession, blaming rats for his fall from grace (he was once Prince Charles' pet). He decides to have them frozen with liquid nitrogen. However, The Toad's plan fails. Worse, during their escape, Rita takes a unique electrical cable. The cable is required to control the Floodgates. The Toad's evil plan is to open the gates during halftime of the World Cup, drowning the rats and their underground city in sewage. He can then use the depopulated city as a home for millions of his own tadpole offspring.

Roddy finds that the ruby is a fake and breaks it in front of Rita, enraging her, for she can now not get the money she needs for her large family. Roddy offers her a real ruby if she takes him back to Kensington. Accepting the offer, the pair first stop to visit her family before setting off. During Roddy's stay, he overhears a conversation that causes him to think that Rita had double-crossed him, so he steals the Jammy Dodger. When Rita catches up to him, he is able to clear up the misunderstanding. The pair evade Spike and Whitey pursuing in a remote-controlled toy boat, with Thimblenose Ted and others on eggbeater jet skis. During this scene, Roddy and Rita share a quick love moment. Incensed at his minions’ repeated failures, The Toad sends for his French cousin; an infamous, if somewhat laid back, mercenary known as Le Frog (Jean Reno). Le Frog and his subordinates intercept the duo and retrieve the cable, but Roddy and Rita use a plastic bag to lift themselves out of the sewer (snatching away the cable during the ascent) and get Roddy home, though the Jammy Dodger has to be sacrificed.

Back home, Roddy pays Rita the promised ruby and an emerald, then proceeds to show her around his house. She at first believes he has family in the home, but noticing his cage, she realizes he's a pet. Roddy tries to pass Sid off as his brother, but Sid and Rita know each other. Rita tries to persuade Roddy to come with her, but he is too proud to admit that he is lonely. By now, they have fallen in love but have not told each other their feelings. She departs, both of them broken-hearted, but is soon captured by The Toad. Talking to Sid about half-time, Roddy pieces together The Toad's plan. He gives Sid his cushy position and has him flush him back to the sewers to find Rita and save the city. Together, they defeat The Toad and freeze the wave of sewage generated by the flushing of countless toilets during the FIFA World Cup half-time with liquid nitrogen before it drowns the entire rat population.

Rita and Roddy build the Jammy Dodger Mark Two and set off in her with Rita's entire brood. A newspaper article reveals England had lost on penalties. Rita and Roddy become boyfriend and girlfriend. Later while the credits start, Roddy's former owner Tabitha comes back with a new pet (a cat), which frightens Sid.

Peter Highman (Robert Downey, Jr.) is a high strung, type A yuppie on his way home from Atlanta to Los Angeles to be present at the birth of his first child, a scheduled C-section, with his wife, Sarah. Once on the plane, Peter learns that Ethan Tremblay (Zach Galifianakis), who had accidentally run his car through his door, is sitting behind him in first class. After inadvertently using the words "terrorist" and "bomb", Ethan gets Peter shot by a Federal Air Marshal with a rubber bullet. Both Peter and Ethan are forced off the plane before take-off.

After being questioned by security, Peter discovers that he has been placed on the No Fly List and will have to find another way to get to California. After realizing that he had left his wallet on the plane, Peter reluctantly agrees to travel with Ethan, an aspiring actor hoping to make it in Hollywood, to Los Angeles. Ethan is on his way to Hollywood after the funeral of his father, and is carrying his father's ashes in a coffee can on the trip.

After stopping in Birmingham, Alabama to purchase marijuana, Peter and Ethan realize that they collectively only have $60 in cash. Peter decides to have his wife transfer him money. Since he does not have his identification card, Peter has his wife transfer the money in Ethan's assumed last name. Once at Western Union, Ethan recalls the fact that the money has been sent to his stage name and therefore not his real name, Ethan Chase, which is on his only government-issue I.D. The Western Union employee (Danny McBride) does not accept Ethan's head shot as proof of ID and declines the transfer. Frustrated and on edge, Peter verbally attacks the man who, even though he is a wheel chair-bound veteran, attacks Peter in retaliation, firmly beating him.

After spending the night at a rest stop, Peter waits for Ethan to go to the restroom. Once Ethan is gone, Peter empties the rental car of all Ethan's items and steals the car, leaving Ethan behind. The plan almost works until Peter notices that Ethan's coffee-canned ashes of his father are still in the car. Feeling guilty, Peter returns to the rest stop.

Ethan drives while Peter gets some rest. After a while of driving, Ethan falls asleep at the wheel and the car crashes. At a Dallas hospital, Peter, who has a broken arm and three cracked ribs, is picked up by his friend Darryl (Jamie Foxx). Peter reluctantly decides to take Ethan along. Stopping at Darryl's house, Peter discovers that, nine months ago, Darryl and Sarah spent some time together. This information leads Ethan to accuse Darryl of being the possible father of Sarah and Peter's unborn child.

Peter notices that the coffee Darryl made them tastes funny. After questioning Darryl, he reveals that he used the coffee that Ethan had in his car. Realizing that the 'coffee' is really the ashes of Ethan's father, they spit it out. In a panic while retrieving them from the coffee filter, Ethan accidentally spills his dad's ashes all over the floor. This further saddens him. Peter helps him scoop up the remaining ashes and they leave Darryl's house.

Driving Darryl's Range Rover, Ethan smokes marijuana while Peter is dozing, and the smoke collects in the cabin, intoxicating Peter, as well. The two accidentally end up at the United States-Mexico border in El Paso when Ethan mistakes the security checkpoint for a gas station. Ethan flees from the border checkpoint and leaves Peter to be arrested for possession of the marijuana purchased earlier by Ethan. After being taken into custody by the Mexican Federal Police, Peter is broken out by Ethan who steals a border patrol truck in the process.

The duo stop at the Grand Canyon where Ethan spreads his father's ashes. Peter confesses that he did try to leave Ethan back at the rest area. Ethan then decides to also make a confession: he has had Peter's wallet since the plane. Peter attacks Ethan in rage. Sarah calls during the attack to inform Peter that her water has broken. Peter and Ethan immediately begin to rush toward California. Along the way, Ethan accidentally shoots Peter with a gun he had found in the truck's glove compartment. Peter does not stop to receive medical attention for his gun shot wound.

Once at the hospital where Sarah is in labor, Peter and Ethan witness the birth of Rosie, Peter and Sarah's healthy Caucasian baby girl, revealing that it was not Darryl's baby. Peter passes out in pain from his wounds. Ethan later recounts to Peter that Ethan had assisted in Rosie's birth by cutting the umbilical cord, something that Peter had allegorically dreamed earlier in the film. The two go their separate ways with the promise that Peter will e-mail Ethan to keep their friendship intact.

At the end of the film, Peter, Sarah, and Rosie watch an episode of Two and a Half Men, in which Ethan has landed a role.

Megamind (Will Ferrell) is a super-intelligent alien, a (self-proclaimed) incredibly handsome genius and master of all villainy, and (also self-proclaimed but with more to back it up) villain of the fictional Metro City. Megamind has constantly battled and lost to his nemesis Metro Man (Brad Pitt) since they both arrived on Earth as infants. On the day that Metro City dedicates a museum to their protector, Megamind and his sidekick Minion (David Cross) kidnap reporter Roxanne Ritchi (Tina Fey) and lure Metro Man into a copper-lined room. To everyone's surprise, Metro Man is unable to escape and appears to be killed when Megamind's death ray strikes him. Megamind revels in his victory against Metro Man, but shortly after becomes depressed, his villainy having no meaning without anyone to stop him.

While attempting to destroy the museum, he disguises himself as its curator Bernard (Ben Stiller) to avoid being found by Roxanne and ends up talking with her. Megamind is inspired by a comment from Roxanne to create a superhero by injecting a worthy target with a serum fashioned from Metro Man's DNA, granting them Metro Man's super-abilities. As Megamind is selecting his target, Roxanne sneaks into Megamind's lair; in the resulting chaos, Megamind accidentally fires the serum into Hal, Roxanne's cameraman (Jonah Hill). Taking advantage of the gullible Hal, Megamind appears to the transformed human as his "space dad", grooming Hal into the superhero Titan (which Hal misspells as "Tighten") and preparing him to fight Megamind in the coming days. Meanwhile, Megamind has become attracted to Roxanne, and continues to date her using his Bernard disguise. Titan, also infatuated with Roxanne, becomes jealous of Bernard, while Minion, seeing Megamind losing interest in villainy, angrily leaves him. On a dinner date, Megamind's disguise falters, leading Roxanne to dump him. Megamind, heartbroken, returns to his lair and vows to fight Titan the next day as planned.

Megamind becomes impatient waiting for Titan and seeks him out, finding that Titan is intending to use his powers for nefarious purposes. Outraged, Megamind taunts Titan into fighting him by revealing his space dad and Bernard disguises. In the midst of the fight, Megamind realizes that Titan will not be satisfied with simply imprisoning Megamind, but intends to kill him. Megamind tries to activate his safeguard scheme by capturing Titan in a copper-lined trap but is shocked to find it fails to work. Megamind flees, leaving the city to celebrate Titan's victory, until Titan reveals that he is taking over the city and goes on a destructive rampage as the new villain, much to everyone's shock. Megamind returns to Roxanne, apologizing and convincing her to lead him to Metro Man's secret headquarters where they might find another way to stop Titan. They are surprised to find Metro Man alive, secluded in his headquarters. Metro Man reveals he had become tired of fighting Megamind and had an epiphany. He then faked his own death to pursue his career as a musician. Without any new leads, Roxanne tries to convince Megamind to fight Titan as the city's hero, but Megamind feels he is destined to always be the failing villain, and turns himself back into prison.

Later, Titan captures Roxanne and secures her to the top of Metro Tower, threatening to kill her if Megamind does not fight him. Seeing Roxanne in danger, Megamind pleads to the Warden for his release, apologizing for all the wrongs he committed before. To the villain's surprise, Minion has disguised himself as the Warden, accepts Megamind's apology, and the two take off to save the city. Minion disguises himself as Megamind to lure Titan from the tower and save Roxanne, while Megamind disguises himself as Metro Man to verbally berate Titan for his actions. Titan is temporarily bested, and told by "Metro Man" to leave "Metrocity" (Megamind's distinctive mispronunciation of "Metro City"), but the deranged villain returns, seeing through Megamind's disguise. Megamind is forced to run from Titan's wrath, until Roxanne discovers where Megamind left his invisible car and the tool to extract the superhero serum from Titan. Megamind successfully retrieves the device and uses it on Titan, reverting him back to Hal. As Hal is taken away to jail, the city cheers for its new hero, a role that Megamind realizes he is capable of choosing himself.

In the aftermath, the former Metro Man museum is rededicated to Megamind, who is slowly coming around to being the hero. He and Roxanne have developed a relationship, and hidden in the crowds, a disguised Metro Man gives Megamind his congratulations.

Boog plans an annual guys trip to spend time with his male friends. But his best friend, Elliot, has distanced himself from him since Elliot had started a family. Boog is disappointed since everyone else wanted to spend time with their families which makes Boog go on a trip of his own, which leads him to a Russian traveling circus.

While in the circus, Boog meets Doug, a lazy, scruffy grizzly bear who is tired of performing in the circus on the sidelines. He craves recognition as a full-fledged king of the forest, the ruler of wildlife. Doug convinces Boog to switch his life in the forest for Doug's place at the circus, which Boog later accepts the offer. But the whole thing turns out a scam since all Doug wanted to do was escape.

Meanwhile, Boog falls madly in love with Ursa, a female grizzly bear who was born in Russia and can effortlessly walk on a tightrope, juggle and dance. When the couple begin working together, they obtain much more as a harmonious duet than it might seem at first glance. When Boog's pals find out about Boog's disappearance, they, as well as the pets put aside their differences and hatch a rescue mission to save Boog and his true love.

Boog's friends arrive at the circus. They want Boog to return home, but he does not want to leave Ursa. All of a sudden, Doug arrives and apoligizes to Boog for tricking him. While Doug performs the circus acts for the audience, Elliot tells Boog that he can stay at the circus if he wants to. Boog does not want to leave Ursa or Elliot, so he convinces Ursa to go live in the forest with them.

Ursa enjoys life in the forest. Elliot's antler comes off his head for the third time, angering him. In a post-credits scene, Alistair and Doug are enjoying their tour around the world.

Humphrey (Justin Long) and Kate (Hayden Panettiere) are two wolves from the same pack in Canada’s Jasper National Park, but on opposite ends of the social order. Kate, the daughter of the Alpha Leader Winston (Danny Glover) and his mate Eve (Vicki Lewis), is an Alpha herself and takes her duty to the pack seriously. Humphrey on the other hand is the Omega Leader, and spends his days making jokes, sledding on logs, and playing about with his other Omega friends, Shakey (Kevin Sussman), Salty (Brian Donovan), and Mooch (Eric Price). As the Omega Leader of the Pack, Humphrey is a skilled peace-keeper, but has a crush on Kate, which is against Pack Law: An Alpha and Omega can't mate.

During her youth, Kate trains to become an Alpha at Alpha school with her father. She returns as a fully trained Alpha, but on her first hunt, two members of the Eastern pack ruin her attempt. The two packs have had a bitter rivalry since Winston dislikes the fact that Tony (Dennis Hopper), the Alpha Leader of the Eastern pack, wants to unite them into one large pack. Winston and Tony meet up and arrange for Kate to marry Tony’s son Garth (Chris Carmack). Kate wearily agrees for the good of the pack and she meets Garth at the Howling Rock. Garth is also an Alpha and howls, as wolves find their mate when their howls match. Garth howling is terrible and Kate is mortified. Kate escapes for a drink of water and runs into Humphrey by the river. They are then shot with tranquilizer darts by a ranger and taken to Idaho.

Humphrey and Kate wake up at Sawtooth National Recreation Area and meet a French-Canadian goose named Marcel (Larry Miller), who has an avid interest in golf, and his caddy, a duck named Paddy (Eric Price). Humphrey and Kate learn that they were relocated to repopulate the species. Marcel and Paddy agree to help the wolves return home to Jasper and they hitch a ride in a camper truck driven by a couple that vacations to Jasper yearly while Marcel and Paddy follow from above.

Back at Jasper as the two packs discover that Kate has gone missing. Tony warns Winston that if Kate doesn’t return to marry Garth by the next full moon, they will declare war for their territory. Lilly (Christina Ricci), Kate's younger Omega wolf, falls in love with Garth and shows him around.

When the camper stops by a truck-stop, Humphrey exits the camper to "go". He is distracted by a cupcake and eats it. A man mistakes Humphrey for a rabid wolf since he has creamy frosting around his mouth. He then prepares to shoot Humphrey, but Kate jumps in to save him. They escape, but they sacrifice their ride to Jasper.

Later, Kate finds a ravine and tries to cross it. She slips down the cliff, but Humphrey saves her. After that, the duo makes a den for the night. Back at Jasper Park, Winston stares at the moon, wondering where Kate is. Hutch (Paul Nakauchi) reports to Winston that Kate can not be found, in which case Winston orders Hutch to prepare the other wolves to defend their territory.

The next morning, Marcel and Paddy find the wolves and direct them to a train over a snowy mountain that will take them to Jasper. Climbing the mountain, Humphrey meets a bear cub (Maya Feltheimer). While playing, the cub cries when Humphrey throws a snowball at him. This angers three bears. When Kate realizes that Humphrey is in danger, she rushes in to help him, causing them to slide down the mountain on a log. Humphrey saves Kate and the duo manages to get into a boxcar just in time.

On the train that night, Humphrey starts to howl at the full moon and asks Kate to join him. After hearing his voice, she joins, and the two howl a romantic duet. Kate realizes that Humphrey is who she belongs with. Meanwhile, at the Howling Rock in Jasper, Lilly helps Garth improve his howl. He succeeds and the two howl together. Tony and his pack show up at the scene to prepare to attack the other pack and berates his son for howling with an Omega. Lilly retreats to alert her father. Since Kate has yet to return, Tony commands his pack to take the valley.

Shortly, the train passes by Jasper. Humphrey tries to profess his love for Kate, but Kate jumps off the train before he can finish. Kate stops the wolf fight by announcing that she will marry Garth, much to Humphrey's and Lilly's surprise and disappointment.

The next day, a heartbroken Humphrey decides to leave Jasper and travel on his own and shares his goodbyes with Kate, Marcel, and Paddy. Yet, Kate also feels heartbroken after realizing how she feels about Humphrey. Halfway through Kate and Garth's marriage ceremony, Kate backs out after deciding that she wants to be with Humphrey. Garth also declares his love for Lilly, much to everybody's surprise, even to his own father. The packs fight out of anger, but the conflict is cut short when a caribou stampede interrupts the scene. Winston and Tony are trapped in the stampede, so Kate and Humphrey, (who has decided to return), jump in to help. Kate is knocked out while trying to reach cover. Humphrey shields her with his own body while Winston and Tony try to scare off the caribou.

After the stampede fades, it appears that Kate has been trampled to death. Humphrey declares his love for Kate and howls as a requiem for her. All the wolves then join in and Kate wakes up, much to everyone's relief. Kate and Humphrey finally declare their true feelings to each other. Winston and Tony agree to unite the packs under a marriage between Garth and Lilly, and demolish the social class law. That night, everyone celebrates the happy ending at Howling Rock, where Humphrey and Kate howl a duet.
